Versatility of the DSi engine.
« on: March 06, 2021, 09:37:45 PM »
I have spoken often about how I use high gears and how the DSi engine laps it up. Here is a short (6:48) video showing what I mean and how I block shift (miss gears out) and make use of Deceleration Fuel Cut Off.
This is with a coldish engine (sitting for over three hours since last run).

Hope this is of use to someone!

My car before the Jazz had a 6 speed box.  Third didn't get a lot of use and fifth even less.

The one before that was 5 speed and third was hardly used.

The one before that had overdrive on 3rd and 4th.

The first one had just 4 gears.

I liked them all for different reasons. :)

I liked the DSi engine,  it was the perfect engine for the Jazz.  Main problem with Vtec engine is the big jump from 1st to second and the gutless nature of the engine below 2500 revs.  The Vtec really needs 6 gears, the DSi was fine with 5.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Easier to block change where you are Jocko..... there's not much traffic to contend with.

It will be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end !

Even driving in Edinburgh, I still block change. It is the versatility of the DSi engine that I tried to show there. It will pull happily in 5th from a low speed. Some DSi Jazz owners never use 5th in town.

I'm always block changing too, you can merrily Potter around slow town streets at 20mph in 5th.

I tend to drop it into neutral when coasting downhill of on over-run etc. I know the fuel gets shut off on modern engines, but it's just something I have always done.

Also liking the way you just steadily cruise up to cars at junctions, and roundabouts etc.

Taught how to drive properly  ;)

I always wonder who taught some folks when you see them constantly on the biting point at traffic lights etc. Or slow moving at traffic lights where they move stop, move stop, move stop, if they went slow they could just steadily move along not having to constantly hammer the clutch.

Thanks. My dad taught me to drive, and he was an ex-army driver. Everything from AEC Matador up to tank transporters.
