I did not see any mention of a jack and wheelbrace, wheel changing is a bit easier with them.

He went away with a Draper scissors jack for an extra tenner. However, I didn't offer a wheelbrace as mine, with a telescopic handle, went into the HR-V (which comes with a jack and the standard short-handled wheelbrace).

No. I didn't offer the bits of wood as they had returned to the pile of wood scraps. Someone else here gave the dimensions for the far neater solution cut from sheet of MDF or plywood which is what I would try to do if going down the same route again (the HR-V has a reasonably strong boot floor but has the silly failing of the spare wheel well being not quite deep enough for a full-sized wheel. Nor does it currently have a hole for a fixing bolt although I understand that Honda is addressing that lesser issue).

The Civic has the same problem, wheel-well not big enough for a full sized spare (deep enough but not long enough from front to back),  although it does have space for spacesaver and the bolting down bracket is there at least.

Will autonomous cars need a spare wheel - and what will they do if they get a puncture (pull-over and put hazards on and send n automated 'help-me message to Google ) - discuss !!  (my bet is that they will be fitted with foam filled / run-flat tyres).

Mazda solution to fitting a full size wheel in a shallow well - raise the whole floor.
