Removing tailgate lock barrel.
« on: August 04, 2016, 05:39:09 PM »
I have just bought a beautiful 2006 Jazz, my first 4 wheel Honda, but have noticed what appears to be serious corrosion beside the tailgate lock barrel. There is a protective decal round the lock, which does a very good job of disguising it. To make a repair I will have to remove the barrel. My question is how do I remove it? I realise that there is only wiring attached to the rear but don't know how to release the barrel from the bodywork. Thanks.

I use Waterfox (64 bit Firefox) and the sketches / pictures show up
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Here's a picture of one.  It's funny how some models/regions have the lock and others don't, not sure what the rationale is.

On my car the metal lock is surrounded by a 4mm rubber grommet, just checked and it operates the central locking all round. The scrapyard one pictured has a lever arm, but that is not connected to anything on the Jazz - it's just an electrical switch.

Don't think I've ever inserted the key before in the last 14 years.
