New Usb Connection
« on: February 07, 2014, 04:29:21 PM »
I have a 2008 Jazz SE. I only have an AUX port, which has been playing up recently. Is this an easy fix?
Also can you add a USB post to the Stereo. Is the hard to do and what connection do I need.
Thanks in advance for any help

Hi, What do you mean by playing up? Is this with all mp3 devices or just one. Have you tried a different cable and make sure it's fully pushed in to the stereo and mp3 player. It could just be a wobbly contact. I don't have a usb port on my 2009 model either but survive ok using my galaxy S2 as an mp3 player and satnav!

I used the Aux input on my 2009 Jazz ES to play music from my MP3 player but the usb socket on my 2013 ES is much better. It would not recognise the MP3 player but it plays MP3 files from a Flash drive and displays the title on the radio display.

I don't think you can connect a new usb socket to an existing car radio but If the Aux socket on your Jazz is fully working it might be possible to use a 3.5mm to usb to USB adaptor to connect audio from a MP3 source with a standard usb type A plug output to the Aux input. The usb adaptor would not provide power to the MP3 player though or provide any control over MP3 source the but may provide a data connection, however there is absolutely no guarantee that the adaptor would work with the Jazz audio input but it might be worth a try though.

An adaptor available via Play.com suggests it can be used to connect a usb audio source to a car audio 3.5mm audio input connector to play MP3 files.

Thanks for the help. I have switched between 3 audio cables and have determined it it a connection problem further back. The cable has to sit at the correct angle to recognise the device which is forcibly pushed upwards.
I read that a usb connection can be connected via the CD changer connection at the back of the stereo and that this would allow navigation through an ipod vis the radio and steering wheel controls.
Is this true?

Yes it should do. Some after market kits are available with either USB or iPod connectors.

Would the cable supplied with your ipod work?

Do Honda suppliy an ipod connector lead with cars fitted with a usb connector (VW do)?

Don`t get car till tomorrow lunchtime so I can`t check to see if the cable I got with the i-pod will fit, when looking at the car prior to buying the connection looked different.
Just have to wait & see.

Here`s hoping :)

The connection is different as you have already noticed. The cable you got with the iPod won't fit straight in*. It's a flylead job as mentioned in the other thread. Don't ask me why Honda does it that way though....

Have a look here at the pictures over here:

If it doesn't have one, and it's a Honda dealer, play hardball and get them to get you one for nowt. They must have them hiding somewhere. (39114-TFO-003)
