South East London service/mot

I passed my driving test in February and have been happily driving my 2007 Honda Jazz ever since but I know I need to start thinking about where I will take it for it's service and mot in September '12.

Can anyone offer advice on where to take it in South London/Kent and whether it's worth going Honda dealer or sticking to independent? Being a woman that knows very little about cars it's quite an intimidating task and I have concerns that a rogue garage could very easily take me for a ride.

Any advice/ suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Avoid Honda dealers like the plague unless you have very deep pockets and enjoy being treated disrespectfully and taken for a ride. Get a friend or neighbour to recommend a tried and tested local independent garage, or use some service like Checkatrade to find one. Better still, take some evening classes in car maintenance and save yourself a fortune!
