Title: USB drive unsupported
Post by: guest3042 on February 26, 2016, 05:04:23 PM
I tried to use a SanDisk flash drive to play music in my Honda Jazz Hybrid, but I get a message saying it is unsupported.
Any ideas, please?

Thanks

Many of these things only work with drives formatted to FAT16 or FAT32
Also I have a item that will only read 32GB and under drives.

Thanks. I formatted to FAT32 and the drive is only 8gb, but it still wouldn't work.

I have used several sandisk usb drives successfully on my Jazz, and now on my Civic. Files must be either mp3 or wma. I did have a problem when I tried editing stuff on the drives and  then got the unreadable files message, this was fixed by reformatting drives, and re-copying files . I do this by copying folders from my computer to the usb, each folder being a cd. I don't know if it's the best method but it works for me !
Hope this helps.

Thanks, but I seem to have done everything, like making sure the files are MP3, but still no joy.
My ipod works perfectly.

When I had the problem on one drive it worked perfectly in my Jazz and on my computer, but was dodgy on cars I test drove.
USB drives are so cheap ( my last 8gb SanDisk was £3.99 at Argos) that your easiest option to isolate your problem
is to try another drive.
The reason I have 3 drives is that it won't be the end of the world if one fails or gets lost or broken, and also the Jazz plays the music in the order it was recorded so gives me less to search through when playing.

Yes, I think a new drive is the only answer.

Thanks for your help.

I suspect that the USB port in the car is not supplying sufficient power to operate the disk

I didn't think of that. Is that something that can't be fixed?

If you have a second USB port in the car, you could try one of these:

Or use that in conjunction with on of these:

When you have formatted the flash drive on a Mac OS and also have copied the iTunes files onto the flash drive from there, then you might google around about certain hidden files which can give trouble with car usb's. Many people get an unsupported disk because of those files.
