Title: Green switch by my gearstick?!
Post by: guest4828 on June 02, 2014, 12:06:34 PM
Hi everyone.

New member and Jazz owner and must say i really like this car!

Honda Jazz Hatchback 1.4i-DSI SE 5dr (2002-2004)

Ok my question is as follows -
Ive looked online and scoured through my manual/handbook but can find no reference to the green switch just above my gearstick by the dual cup holders. So what is it for?

Is it some sort of early eco button? if it is eco what exactly does that do/mean? Unfortunately it didn't eject the girlfriend when i tried it! Or suddenly inject nitrox into the system and win the drag race... so my money is on some sort of eco mode or possibly the work of a demented Honda technician who felt the need to torture poor souls like me, with a switch that does absolutely nothing!

Thanking you in advance for taking the time to put me out of my misery!

I would be inclined to take out the switch and see if there are any wires connected to it.  If there are, measure using a DC voltmeter between both sides of the switch to a ground point, with the ignition on and off.  If there is a voltage (about 12.5 VDC) with the ignition on, then the switch is doing something.

Maybe extra lights were once attached?

thanks for the compliments on my attitude and kind words of welcome.

In all honesty it was meant to be a little sarcastic, not rude.

And this is just my opinion mind... but if you don't know what the green switch is, how is a picture going to help. Its the only green switch in the car. Its in a specific location. We aren't talking about some complicated mechanical hook up or electrical schematic. Its got to be standard on the model of jazz i have and therefore obvious to someone who has owned a similar aged model from new; i just cant see how a picture is going to help someone who clearly doesn't know what it is for.

And its not the first time Ive seen this. On other forums, completely unrelated to Honda's i hasten to add. I swear there was a guy on there who just went onto peoples posts and said 'a picture would help' just for fun. Then probably sat there rubbing his hands thinking about all the people out there taking unnecessary pictures because he had said too; shortly before taking over the world.

Chris - thank you for your constructive comments.

So, did you take it out and is it wired up, or a dummy?

In fairness, a picture does help. Straight way it can be identified in some  way.

a) (unlikely) a standard fit Honda thing. As that would of showed up as something in your scour. (And I've seen it loads of times on forums where people claimed to have searched for something and haven't)
b) an aftermarket switch someone might have a clue as to where it is from, or what aftermarket kit it may have been supplied with.
c) you don't say what sort of switch it is (a rocker/toggle/push/etc), only the colour.

Your second ever post of "sarkiness" does come across plain rude and arsey. It's not as if you've been posting here since nineteen canteen and we understand the intended tone of your emoticon-less post. Also a very clever ploy that to lose most of your potentional respondees.

Anyway, good luck in finding the function of the green switch fitted to your car. I'm out.

it is quite usual to ask for a picture on this forum,  normally a picture is worth a thousand words.

if there is a green switch with no symbol or writing on it it is probably an after-market thing,  but without a picture
this thread will just come to a full stop.

Eddie Honda is correct,  no-one appreciates sarcasm - especially when you are asking for help
