Title: Malfunction indicator lamp
Post by: guest4288 on September 21, 2013, 12:02:30 PM
I have just acquired a 2006 Jazz 1.4 SE CVT.  I notice that with the ignition switched to position II, where all the panel indicator lights come on, that the malfunction indicator lamp with engine symbol referred to in the manual doesn't display.  This is the first time I have looked for it after reading about it in the manual.

Is this something to worry about? Does this model not have this lamp? Other panel lights display as to be expected according to the manual.

Is it probable that a panel light bulb would blow?

Try 'simulating' an engine fault to 'encourage' fault indicator to light...e.g. pull off one of the ignition plug leads! and start engine. If no light in fault condition I would suspect indicator problem.

Yes, logical suggestion. But I'd rather not induce a fault for the moment.

Reading the Jazz manual on-line suggests that in the CVT model the light doesn't get tested until  the shift stick is moved to D. So I'll look for the light next time I go for a drive in the car.

By the way, what colour is this Malfunction (engine symbol) light?
