Title: JAZZ 2018 start/stop
Post by: duckskin on June 10, 2026, 02:46:31 PM
Had the car 3 months now, the start/stop feature has worked once while driving despite doing a couple of really long trips. 500 mile round.
The previous owner only did 4/5k miles per year so id assume he just did short trips in it.
Could the car need a new battery? Not a big deal but just curious. Starts fine.

Very similar situation to my 2018 EX, - which is now 8 years old and still has its original battery

The start/stop feature is very sensitive to battery condition,  and will not function unless the battery is in very good condition.

Even if not in perfect condition, the battery may be otherwise fully functional,  and the car will start and run without problems

Whether you want to change the battery depends on how much you want the start/stop function.  My own view is that it is not an essential feature,  and I am happy to keep the current battery until the day when it will finally give up

Do you get the "low battery" indication on the multi-function display (to the right of the speedo)? If so, then yes, you'll probably need a new battery soon. But the cessation of the stop-start function provides useful early warning, and that can go on for several years of faultless starting. The decision about when you change it really depends on how close to the unseen cliff-edge you want to get; if it's the original battery then it's already exceeded the normal expected lifespan. My OEM battery lasted 10 years before I got nervous about the possibility of unexpected failure and changed it. At which point the stop-start started working again (and personally I think it's a feature worth having to help with local air pollution).

yep , as above. I changed the battery recently in my 2018.

The S/S hardly ever worked now it works every time , annoying on my regular 4 mile trip which has 3 sets of lights and 2 junctions !

Mine used to work, bit I installed a hard wired dash cam which stays on to detect motion.
It hasn't worked since, not that I'm bothered all that stopping and starting the engine is what causes wear so glad it doesn't tbh.
