I am collecting my new Jazz Advance Sport at the end of this week and have started this topic as I may need to seek advice from experienced Jazz drivers.
I have downloaded the manual and had a look through it. In the General and Vehicle settings there are a lot of options to adjust or switch things On or Off. I expect to leave most or everything at the default setting but I am happy to be given advice, based on experience, of any recommended changes to these settings.
-
You will get conflicting advice as we all have different priorities. My advice is to experiment and find out what you prefer. Personally, I’m happy with the default settings.
-
I recommend to setting the rather misleading (and quite obscure) setting of "Warning message" in the "customized features" to ON as it displays a helpful text along the symbol on the driver information display.
You may discover quite a few nifty shortcuts this way!
-
Most of the safety features default back to enabled the next time the car is turned on, one setting I found useful was disabling the auto fold mirrors when freezing weather was forecast
-
Welcome. Enjoy your Jazz Sport. I love mine
The best introduction I’ve found is this YouTube video. It’s generic Jazz but it all applies equally to the Jazz.

My first 'handover' was taking a demonstrator for a test drive . The salesman brought the car to the front and then left me to it with little more than a 'see you later'. Before I could drive off the engine suddenly stopped :o (It had gone into EV mode ;D) Consternation. How do I restart the engine?
Fortunately I soon realised, without the embarrassment of having to ask , that despite the total silence the car will move off anyway when you press the throttle pedal. A surreal experience the first couple of times. But within a few hundred metres I had no trouble driving the car.
Second handover ,delivery of my own car, was not much more than " we've programmed in a few radio stations." ' To be fair, in the 'excitement' of getting my mitts on a new car I probably wouldnt have absorbed much of a hand over briefing anyway.
I have learned most of what I do know empirically from reading the manual and experimentation. I'm often reminded that there is still much I have yet to learn. And some I've already forgotten. :-[

One feature i find very useful is the left hand climate control on / off button, not while driving but whilst stationary having a coffee or a snack.
When switched to off and a window opened a crack, keeps the combustion engine mostly off, but all the electrics on, so you can play music, use the windows, use the heated seats, and it means you dont have to turn the car ignition button off, thereby not affecting your trip readings etc etc.
Then you just turn the CC on again when you set off, and the car goes back to normal. :D

Does the engine still start occasionally when necessary using this method? . Or is it like listening to radio etc for long periods in accessory mode which can flatten the relatively small 12v battery, especially in cars that dont make long enough trips to keep it fully charged.. .

The engine starts as necessary
-
When I first got mine I sat in the garage, garage doors open, in normal EV mode and in 'P' whilst I went through my saved pages setting each item
I'd previously downloaded the more comprehensive online manual and printed each applicable page
As expected the engine cut in periodically to keep charged up

At the handover for my Jazz I showed the salesman the two button trick for disabling the remote. He wasn't aware of it! In fact, I've done that twice, several years apart, with different salesmen. They evidently don't talk to each other.

Even the manual explains how to disable the key fob's receiver, though only as a side note under the heading "Low Keyless Remote Signal Strength":
It is possible to reduce battery consumption by turning off radio wave reception. When you hold down the lock and unlock buttons at the same time for approximately three seconds, the LED will blink twice and radio wave reception will turn off.
-
Same with me at Honda Bushey, none of the salesmen knew of the fob disable
Salesmen just don't know their products
The one exception was Honda Ottershaw in 2013 where the salesman did know all about the Civic I was buying

Question on Climate Control:
I am in the habit of turning the CC off when I get home so that the next time I power on I can manoeuvre out of my parking space in silence. Once on the road I press Auto. I can see that the fan speed varies but there is no indicator light to show that the AC is operating. Is this correct?
-
Having 'renewed' my Crosstar I have noticed it is quieter, and the brake regeneration is more apparent. The increased HP has not really been apparent but have not done any motorway running where it might show at higher ICE only conditions.
-
Once on the road I press Auto. I can see that the fan speed varies but there is no indicator light to show that the AC is operating. Is this correct?
Yes, this is normal "Honda"-behaviour: When on Auto the AC light never comes on even when AC clearly is working.
Auto is just what its name implies: Fully automatic and like the hybrid drive train does its thing entirely on its own.
-
Went all the way to Cannock to collect my pre registered new Crosstar.
I was asked if i wanted to take a test drive, but declined as the traffic and congestion on the Midlands roads was very intimidating, compared to back home in sleepy N Wales
I therefore sat in the passenger seat and watched the traffic go buy.
Driving the car home was scary, but what a car, one of the best ive ever owned.

What is the capacity of the 12v battery? I had a look at my battery this morning and the battery retaining strap covers the AH numbers.
-
40Ah 340A unless the revamp is different now.
-
The current handbook says “Capacity 32AH(5)/40AH(20)” whatever that means.
-
Got this from Google. Hooe it helps.
32Ah: The lower capacity is typically achieved at a faster discharge rate (e.g., C/5 or C/10), meaning the battery can provide 32 amp-hours over a shorter period.
40Ah: The higher capacity is usually achieved at a slower discharge rate (often the 20-hour rate or C/20), meaning it can provide 40 amp-hours if used slowly over a longer period.

The TCU has been activated on my car. Now it is telling me there is a update available so I have tried to download it but failed. The car keeps telling me to change network connection, there is a list of connections but none of them work. I cannot connect to my home router as I live in a second floor flat and I thought I could connect through my iphone but that doesn't work either. Advice would be welcome.
-
Have you got your iPhone set to personal hotspot on and then choose it in the car’s connections menu? I think you will need to choose a password.
-
I've only had my Jazz a couple of week and looking through the associated paperwork I have just realised that I haven't got a service book. Should I have received one or have service records gone fully digital.
-
Yes, all digital I think. I didn’t get a service book or a current handbook, but the handbook is easier to use on-line anyway.
-
2023 advance sport, I got a handbook but no service book told it was done online now, there was once
a fella in dealership who ordered a handbook stood next to me and it cost him £100 he could have downloaded
it on line for free, also I have heard of some people only getting one key, at the moment I'm trying to make my
mind up whether or not to take out extra warranty in October, alright with the service plan till 2028 if a mk 5 came out
in 2027 I could trade it in before I lost more money through depreciation, if I did the extra warranty and service
plan would be a waste of money, I've always been dubious about car service wether its been carried out as it should
be or not from conversations with mechanics some I knew personally.
-
I've always been dubious about car service wether its been carried out as it should be or not from conversations with mechanics some I knew personally.
I've always been given a copy of the standard Honda service sheet (and this year there was also a sheet with the HV battery health check). That boxes get ticked is no guarantee that work has been done but that's the same with a lot of things. I was surprised to see that after one year and less than 5k miles the rear brake pads are reported as 30% worn while the front pads are 10%. Regenerative braking only works through the front wheels and might reduce the wear on the front brakes but I wouldn't be surprised if next year the rear pads are still 30% worn - it's a subjective measurement.
-
When I first got my jazz and got home I had a good look all around it, I can remember to this
day first thing I thought was [there's not much meat on them pads] in fact they was half the
thickness of the pads I had recently replaced on a vauxhall insignia.
-
also I have heard of some people only getting one key
I've heard that, but only when the car has been taken out on finance and the dealer thinks there is a risk it may have to be repossessed

My car is currently at 37k miles, and at 3 years/34k had its first MOT. Brake wear was reported as 30% rear, 20% front. I drive using regen as a substitute for slowing down by changing down (as previous cars), very rarely using the brakes at all, only for that last stop behind vehicles, at lights and parking. I find the Jazz regen a great tool for anticipating driving conditions.

I have been looking for the paint code for my Crystal Red Jazz Advance. On the drivers door pillar there is a sticker with the tyre pressures. On the passengers side door pillar there is a sticker with a black background that has the VIN on it. also there is a code R565M, could this be the paint code?
-
Yes, it is the right code.

Sorry for tardy answer!
Yes the engine switches off and restarts as it needs to when using this method, so its literally like everything is on in normal drive mode and systems are all as if in normal driving, EXCEPT the engine doesnt need to run to keep the temperature at the selected value - ie the engine is off most of the time. It starts when it thinks it needs to top up the Traction battery
-
We bought a new Jazz Advance two weeks ago. In that time we've started it up around forty times without problem - but on two occasions now it has refused to start and the warning symbols show a yellow steering wheel with an exclamation mark and a red battery (ie power steering problem and battery failure.)
On each occasion simply switching off and starting again leads to the lights disappearing and everything working fine.
The presence of TWO faults confuses me, as does their solving by a simple reboot.
It's back to the dealership I suppose, which is a pain as it's not exactly handy, and no doubt when I get there everything will work just fine!
Anybody had similar experiences?

The 12v battery is tiny and unless you do lengthy journeys it is easily run flat
Do you have the location to connect a CTEK charger to get it up to 100% periodically

yes that is also what I have heard. Mine did not give problems yet. I also have a "trickle charger" but I have a cheapo from Black & Decker. I used it multiple times when I still had my Suzuki. I guess it will be good enough for my Honda as well.

If by 'cheapo' you also mean quite old and basic I'd recommend buying a modern 'smart' charger . These can adapt and vary charging level to suit the batteries state of charge, and the varying battery technologies now available. It may also have some clever tricks such as pulse charging which can revive and restore a flat battery to health when an old style charger might not. They can usually be left connected for long periods, or even permanently, without risking overcharging the battery.
I am no expert on them. Some might have more 'bells and whistles' than others so best check its specifications before buying. Or follow recommendations from others on here. I bought a fairly basic smart charger from Lidl, but so far, in 4.5 years of mk4 ownership have not needed to use it.
-
i have this one, the BDV090
not sure if this one is outdated. Will look into it.
I picked up my car 25-Mar-2026. Today I did my first wash. I bought a couple of micro fiber towels, some sponges, shampoo and turtle wax and dry. The turtle wax and dry you can apply when the car is still wet. Was a quick job and I am quite pleased with it.
Except here the turtle wax is quite expensive. In the USA it is much cheaper. I asked grok and in the USA the cheapest (converted to €'s) is about 7.75€/liter. I paid 15.99€ for HALF a liter. So that is 4 times more expensive :o
-
My idea of 'old' means very old. :-[ I think the BDV090 is a 'smart' charger and should be fine for maintenance Trickle charging. It might not be ideal for fast charging a discharged battery or able to do 'pulse' desulfation but you may never need to.

Thanks for that. It's reassuring it is not something more serious.
But I thought it was the case that the smaller battery would charge itself from the larger battery?
I'm surprised if I had to carry a charging device around with me, but there again I'm completely new to this style of motoring!
Anyway, so far so good. If it happens again I shall photo it and contact the dealer.
-
A lot of emphasis on CTEK charger. These seem to be really quite expensive, is there a recommended model of this type or a more reasonably priced alternative?

Be sure to connect the chargers negative lead to an earthing point on the chassis or engine not the battery negative terminal

You are right, the hybrid battery does charge the 12 v battery. However it only does so when the car is in Ready Mode. When parked and locked there is a small drain on the 12v battery caused by the alarm, keyless entry and other systems in the background. You don't have to drive the car to charge the 12v battery. Just leave it in Ready Mode for an hour with the Climate Control and radio off. The hybrid battery will charge the 12v battery and if the hybrid battery gets low the engine will start to replenish it. A good time to do this is when you are washing the car.
Also if you ever want to sit in the car listening to the radio, keep the car in Ready Mode to avoid draining the battery.

I have the crystal red jazz I found CHIPEX a far better match than honda. https://chipex.co.uk/?srsltid=AfmBOorUmpyT8L1qTTBVL5Cj33WQDvs-yyr3wGuk0DqZ6sRPtrnNlxn9

Just make sure the charger of your choice is safe to use while the battery is connected to the car's electronics.
IIRC it shouldn't exceed a charging voltage of 14,5V!
You are right: CTEK-charger's are expensive - however, they have a track record of being very reliable.
(I have a CT5 Start-Stop charger myself and use it to occasionally recharge the Jazz's battery (more frequently during the cold season) and always, while the battery is fully connected.
So far - three years - and nothing bad to report.
Of course, there are other (modern!) chargers available at lower prices.
Just refrain from using an old transformer-based "clunker" on a modern car, while the battery is still installed!

Anyone used a CTEK permanently connected plug arrangement on the battery for their Jazz?
Looks more or less impractical for my 2025 Advance due to complete cover on battery +ve terminal.
-
I did
I used the optional lead with rings and bolted them permanently
It did involve cutting a small notch in the red plastic cover for the lead so I could clip the cover back into place
-
Did the same on battery terminals of 5 Civics, the Jazz and the E with the trailing wire plug held on velcro under the bonnet. Have used a Maypole (cheaper Ctek clone) and Lidl intelligent chargers for years with no problems.
-
The red cover is easy to flip up with your finger . Easy to connect a lead with ring. Rather than undoing the nut the small bolt is long enough to just add a second nut. This would ensure the battery doesn't get disconnected. You could fit the negative lead to the battery in the same way , but its better to find somewhere to connect it directly to the car body.
I've not done the job on my own car but I would have thought it would be easy enough to run the lead to somewhere convenient in the car interior so you can connect the charger without having to lift the bonnet every time.. Either using the connector plugs supplied by CTEK , or CTEK's own (rather expensive) plug lead accessory . For other brands of charger you could use standard SAE connector plugs like these
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/358139742254?
-
That connector is what I crimped on to the Lidl cables since they came only with clamps. The Maypole already had it as an alternative to the clamps. Both have an in line 5A fuse.
I leave the bonnets down to 1 cm gap while charging so the engine doesn't get dusty :D :D
I suppose if it was easy to get a longer cable under the dash you would have to leave a window gap to get a mains lead into the cabin.

Thanks gentlemen. Some neat work and I like LV’s connection to battery clamps using another nut.
-
My idea of having the connector plug inside the car to avoid opening the bonnet was not one of my best ! Please ignore my senior moment. :-[
I had thought maybe of leading the charging cable through the open door then shutting the door on it. But on further thought this would risk damaging the cable, which might short out , or damage the rubber door seal, bodywork etc.
-
Once connected, if you just slowly lower the bonnet/hood and don't push it shut you will be OK
-
Got found to installing a CTEK charger connector to my battery this weekend.
