Hi all
Has anybody with a pre-2025-MK4 and Garmin maps been able to updaate to anything beyond map version 25.10?
-
I mentioned this in a previous thread.
https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=17984.0
I had the notification come up on the display, followed the usual procedure with the USB, but when connected to Garmin Express on my laptop it told me there was no updates and everything was up to date. The little map icon had disappeared from the display, and still showing as 25.10.
I have not had an update since.

Looking at my old post (https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=15569.msg146053#msg146053), the current 2025.10 update came out about 13 months ago, so I'd expect the next (2026.10?) update to come soon, if the update even comes once a year?
-
They usually come aroundabout Xmas. However a couple of times we have had bugs which needed a couple of weeks to sort out, so first timers are in the brave vanguard of guinea pigs :)

That's exactly my concern, thank you! - I knew that map updates for "stand-alone" navigation systems got less frequent in the days of phone based Google Maps and consorts than they used to be.
But 13 months got me wondering (hence the thread).
However, I seem to be not the only one waiting for a map update - at least that indicates, I'm not "doing anything wrong" which is a comfort by itself.

Thanks to a tip from RuthieB (https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=17767.msg156996#msg156996) I have successfully updated the Garmin maps to map version 2026.10 today (by USB-Stick) :)
Funny thing: The progress indicator goes well beyond 100% before the update is completed (mine went to about 215%).
Addendum:
The Garmin Express updater said something along the lines of "map update subscription paid until 09/2028"
Does this mean, we have to pay for the map updates after about five years after purchase?
-
Thanks to you both, mine is now updated too.

I had a problem in that my car a 23reg Crosstar, said there was a software update available, but when I did the search with a USB, the site said the vehicle was up-to-date.
The car went in for a service on Monday at the main dealer where I bought it last year and I asked them to check it. When it came back the guy who took my four hundred quid for the service and MOT, said that the annoying notification on the main screen, had been removed, but he had no idea what was the problem, which I thought a bit unhelpful.
I've since done another USB check and the site again says the car is up to date, will that mean it has the latest navigation update?
-
Sean, I had this repeatedly.. its in another thread somewhere. Kept getting the little 'map' icon appear on the Garmin, but when I did the USB thing and then went on the Garmin site.. no updates. Happened about 4 times. Just a glitch with the software I think. However, this last time I didn't even get the 'map' icon, but as the OP suggested I did the USB thing in the car and then onto the Garmin site and there was the update!
-
I've just checked with the main dealer. Someone in the service department said that if you use the website via the USB method as do I, if it says, "no software updates available at this time," it means everything is up to date, including the navigation system.

Current map version is 2026.10

Thank you for your reply!
Maybe you should consider to read the thread (https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=15776.msg157048#msg157048) before replying because that (latest map version = 2026.10) is exactly what I finally was able to update to (https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=18007.msg157007#msg157007)

Just updated my 2020 Jazz Mk4 to the latest 2026.10 maps via USB. Very straightforward and I was suprised that it was free despite car being over 5 years old.

Same here, was quite surprised it was still free.

Me too.

Just thinking aloud here, but I wonder if there’s a logical reason for the updates being free. There’s now a requirement for cars to have speed warnings (the bongs when you exceed the posted limit), and it seems likely that the satnav forms part of that system (otherwise how would the car know the limit where there are no signs, eg in urban 30mph areas?). So satnav might be essential to comply with the law. Charging for updates might be seen as blocking people from updating, and hence encouraging rule-breaking, and perhaps Honda don’t want to be seen to be doing that. Just musing though, I have no evidence or authoritative source.

I'm not surprised Garmin continues update longer than expected. Even though Honda paid Garmin a cut price for the mapping deal.
Garmins own standalone products get map updates 4 times a year. . The Honda/Garmin deal only ever got updates once a year, if that. Garmin still have all the costs of keeping the maps updated for their own standalone customers . Allowing Honda customers to continue occasionally download a map they have updated anyway costs them little extra financially.
But if they suddenly pull map update support on Honda cars it would increase the number of owners who are already using cheaper and better alternatives via their phone etc. Inevitably reducing Garmins reputation and future share in the satnav market.

In your dreams! - I have a "live-time-map-update" stand-alone Garmin DriveAssist 50 (which doubles as a dashcam) and I can sincerely assure you that the map updates are far less frequently than quarterly!
-
IIRC Garmin map updates were this frequent for my Standalone device. But its along time since I last updated it. :-[ Maybe standards have dropped. I had read that mapping companies are struggling to get updating done at a cost they are willing to pay, even in low wage economies.
(the Garmin in my 2021 car sometimes displayed locations in what I think must have been Pinyin (ie Chinese characters converted into Roman letters that may depict a word by how it sounds rather than correct local spelling (eg Kalay for Calais)
My standalone Garmin was originally sold with 'free updates for life'. I had visions of still getting free updates when I am 100 ;D . Garmin then changed the definition to 'For the life of the device'. Fair enough, I've got 30 year old tech in cupboards that would still be working :-[ (tomorrows antiques ;) ) Garmin again changed the definition to ' for the design life of the device'. In other words Garmi can stop updates whenever they want if they consider its obsolete. Or claim its up to date because the 10 year old update is the most recent they have issued. .
