Title: Water drip
Post by: Jazzfreak on September 20, 2025, 10:54:02 AM
Noticed this morning after using the car for a short distance that water (definitely water) was slowly dripping onto the road from the central area of the engine.

It may be normal,it may not. Just putting the feelers out before I book it in to the Honda dealer.
There is no warning of any kind on the driver info display of overheating.

Is anyone able to throw any light on this? Thanks in advance.

This might just be condensation dripping from the climate control; nothing to worry about.

Indeed, just condensation from the airconditioning system. No worries!

It is usually slightly better to turn AC off a few minutes before you arrive. The condensation will disappear while there is enough airflow, preventing bacterial growth and bad smell.

That's what I thought but this is the UK in September!  Perhaps the humidity was too high and the air needed drying out!

Wonder if the automatic A/C can tell if it's humid?

Just in case it isn't the A/C then it has to be a coolant leak

There are two systems:-
The engine has a plastic reservoir next to the screenwash container  and you can check the level.
The electrical power system has a plastic reservoir on the right near the front and you can check the level there too.

Haven’t used air con. I thought it could be condensation but there’s always an element of doubt I suppose. Will check levels as suggested first.
Thanks again

If you press the Auto button the aircon can come on without it indicating "AC/ON".  That got me back in the summer.  I recall reading that some systems can detect high humidity and turn on the A/C but that sounds a bit fancy for a Jazz.

The Jazz also has a humidity sensor (they come cheap), but you can see it nowhere on display. All AC systems have it in order to function properly.
On Auto mode, the AC can be used for cooling and/or for dehumidification (which is deep cooling and reheating).

PS it is my job; climate specialist for museums and monuments  :D

Hi Marco,

That's really interesting.  I've often wondered how these systems determine just how much cooling to apply before they start reheating the air. Now I have a rough idea how it is done.

Update: Used the car today (yesterday was the day of the ‘drips’) and there were no drips coming from the engine area.

I am hoping(praying) that it was connected to aircon as others suggested. It is only just over 2 years old dammit!! ;D

If I take it to a dealer it’s a whole day, probably, wasted. So fingers crossed. Still no warning signs etc on driver display

Relax time to worry when you don't see the water after using air-con,
just think of a frost-free fridge-freezer, see the water everything working alright.
