Title: What do you like about Jazz Mk4?
Post by: stani on July 15, 2025, 07:04:32 PM
It's a reaction to the fact that in a topic that is clearly called "What bothers you about the Jazz Mk4? (https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=17727.0)", there are incomprehensible an increasing number of posts saying "what I like"...

Here's some things that I like about my Jazz:
- The drivetrain is smooth. It feels like driving an EV.
- Great interior space compared to exterior dimensions.
- The dual glove box is nice for storing more items.
- The cupholder in the dashboard keeps my drink cool when the weather is hot, because the AC vent next to it blows cold air onto the drink. Such a smart design. Why isn't it more common in other cars.
- The windows can be opened with the key fob to cool down the cabin before you enter the car.
- The hybrid system is nice in hot weather, as it can keep the AC on all the time, even when the petrol engine is off.
- The climate control has physical buttons and rotary dials, which is great. Some other cars have difficult to use touch controls instead.
- I like the two spoke steering wheel as it allows me to freely place my hand anywhere on the bottom half.
- The reverse camera has a wide field of view, so you can see cars coming from the sides.
- Ability to tow a 500 kg trailer with the 2024 and later models.
- Able to use cheap 15" wheels and tyres. Makes it affordable to buy quality brand tyres.
- It just works. It hasn't left me on the road (yet).

Lots of space (for a small car)
Smooth fast "gear change" (for a small car)
Great acceleration (for a small car)
Feels safe inside

This is true, a function of quality build and generally low deals from new. People forget when they get "many thousands" off a Ford or Vauxhall it is reflected in the second hand value when you come to sell or trade in.

Unless you ask the Honda site online valuation... then it is quite significantly low.

I find my Jazz has a very comfortable ride and is very quiet on the move whether that’s around town or on the motorway.  It’s very refined on the motorway

It beats most cars away from the lights

It is small on the outside but huge inside and also has a good size boot

I love the safety systems.. as mine is 2023 I don’t have the annoying beeps and bongs… I do get a pictorial indication of over speed but no bongs

I like the space and ease of getting in and out.
The ease of parking in tight spots and the rear view camera does have a nice wide view.
The economy is excellent.
Ease of driving in town.
It drives well for a small car. (but it's no rocket ship, what ever other owners think. The main reason not to push it is the raucous noise the engine makes under heavy throttle use).

Absolutely LR

I have owned my Jazz for just over 6 months and I have loved every minute of it

I’ve had absolutely zero issues.  The only problem I had was a slow flat on front near side tyre shortly after purchase however the supplying Honda dealer agreed to go half the cost of replacing both front tyres which I think was very generous

Apart from that in the very early days the Jazz has been absolutely fantastic and I love her to bits

I can second ahavoja's comment about the hybrid system being good in hot weather.  Its 40c at present where I am.  I was stuck in Road works in full sun, at a bridge. Alternate single lane traffic, controlled manually.   We  reached the roadworks reasonably quickly , fully expecting to be let across  within a minute or so.    So every driver  just left their engines running, for aircon.   But oncoming traffic just kept coming and coming. for about 20 minutes !   We found out later it was given priority to help clear gridlock in the town on the other side.
By then other cars were in serious danger of overheating, cooling fans going at full blast.
Drivers either had to risk the car overheating, or tolerate 40C in full sun. No chance of shade.         But the jazz was super cool.  Engine ran quietly for a couple of minutes, then stopped , able to cool down  before starting again for a couple of minutes and so on. This kept the HV battery charged enough to run A/c all the time.

I have an affinity with this bridge. It was built the same year as me, magnificent and strategically important. Who would begrudge it a few repairs   ;D   Mrs LV said they should build a new one alongside then demolish it .  >:( Ho hum.

Our first Jazz, having traded in our ten year old Fabia, which was a great little car.

So far, super impressed. We especially love the EV-like drive, and the seamless way it switches drive modes. The engine is raucous under strong acceleration, but I actually quite like that this encourages me to drive smoothly. It has a good ride and flat handling. The steering may not give lots of road feel, but it’s progressive and very easy to place the car with. It comes fully equipped, with almost no optional extras, which means that its headline price is what you pay.

I love that I don’t have to touch the infotainment screen when I’m driving, except for navigation and CarPlay.

We’ve not done any really long journeys yet, but for an hour or two’s driving it is very comfortable.

It’s incredibly spacious for the footprint and access and space in the back is outstanding.

We chose the Advance Sport in Urban Grey. Rationally the sport is probably not worth the extra, but we really like the trim and the yellow stitching, which is a bit different but not outrageous.

There are lots of other things which we like that have already been covered, so haven’t repeated these.

Welcome to the "club"!

I'm also a "VAG-convert" (from the Fabia sibling Polo) and am impressed by the same things :)

Have you noticed, you can define your own "shortcuts" on the infotainment screen?
This lets you reach your five most frequently used screens at the touch of one "button".

Enjoy your new Jazz!

Yeah?  :D  And how do you put a "shortcut" there to enable/disable reading of traffic signs?  ;)

For that specific shortcut, you will need a tool... (https://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/boese/g060.gif)

Please, do take the time to carefully read my posting, thank you!
(to make it abundantly clear: I suggested making personal shortcuts to frequently used screens on the central infotainment system like "FM-radio", "Navigation" etc)

As you most probably are aware: The security assistant systems can only be temporarily disabled (by law!) via the driver's display and the buttons on the steering wheel - and there are no (known) shortcuts (yet).

You reminded me about the bottom shortcuts, I'd completely forgotten they can be programmed. When I got to the car I found they already were in the best order for me, Navigation nearest, then phone, then Andoid, then the radios  ;D  Google maps is always the default screen.

To be honest I’m trying to think of things I don’t love about my Jazz  ;)

Before I purchased her I did no end of reading reviews, watched loads of YouTube videos and also read lots of comments on this very forum

I also drove a few other cars for comparison before deciding on the Jazz

Because I went through a very exhaustive pre purchase process over some months I knew that it had to be the Jazz because it ticked so many boxes

As I was very very careful before buying my Jazz I have never been disappointed by her, in fact she still surprises today after 6 months ownership

I am racking my brain to come up with something I don’t like about her and the only thing I can think of maybe just maybe the paint is on the thin side as I’ve picked up a few stone chips in the time I’ve owned her

Apart from that minor thing I knew that I’d love her before I purchased as it’s everything I expected from the Jazz and more

No other super mini can pull off the space inside the Jazz as well as being quiet, comfortable, reliable, economical and a joy to own

What I particularly like about my Jazz Crosstar are the wheels.

My car is the same as this.

(stock photo)

(https://i.postimg.cc/kgxg9DcX/21-Hon-Jaz-Hyb-Cro-Star-Ex5dr-Bla-FR-5-800.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)

For 27 years I had CRVs before it. They have alloy wheels. After a few years they become difficult to keep clean. I never ever scuffed the rims, but they still got marked up during the  tyre changes, as new weights went on after old ones had been traken off, which always left a mark on the rims.
There will be no problems with the Crosstar.

Indirect injection. This is classic multi-point indirect fuel injection (MPI).
This is actually unique for a new car with such an engine capacity today.
And since most drivers drive short distances, this is the best solution.

Another exception is Toyota - it uses MPI for smaller hybrids, and the D‑4S dual system for larger engines = a combination of direct and indirect injection.

Direct injection = carbonation. Direct injection + short trips = higher carbonation.
Today, the vast majority of cars have direct injection.

And as some reports have leaked, Honda wants to only put direct injection engines in its future cars (including the Jazz).

Wow, I'm amazed. I  had assumed it must be gdi to get the high efficiency. I was actually bothered about the carbon build-up issue since the engine will likely be running pretty cool for much of the time. It may also explain why the Jazz does relatively badly under high load high power conditions on the motorway.  That is a price worth paying if it keeps the valves etc. carbon free.  It's partly why I am keeping my mk3 Mazda MX-5 rather than change to a mk4.

The lack of a turbo is another advantage.  The wastegate on our old Polo got stuck through carbon build up in too many short journeys.

NetworkMan: sure, a atmospheric four-cylinder petrol engine with indirect injection and at least 1.5 liters is an unrivaled unique item today.

But probably the Toyota system will be the best:

Toyota uses the so-called D-4S dual injection system, which combines direct fuel injection (DI) and indirect injection into the intake manifold (MPI).

How it works in practice:

Low load and cold engine → indirect injection (MPI) is used. Fuel is injected before the intake valve, which helps keep the valves clean and improves fuel evaporation during cold starts.

High load and higher rpm → direct injection (DI) delivers fuel directly into the combustion chamber, which increases power, reduces the risk of knocking and improves efficiency.

Combination of both modes → the engine control unit combines both methods as needed to achieve optimal fuel consumption, performance and emissions.

Benefits:
lower fuel consumption
cleaner combustion and lower emissions
higher power under load
less intake valve fouling than with pure direct injection engines
Title: Re: What do you like about Jazz Mk4?

Stani:  It looks as if the Civic hybrid uses DI only.  I do tend to use Chat GPT for web searches and a bit of analysis so that may be wrong....

What I like about the Mark 4,,,,,
..... is the width which looks as if it hasn't changed since the Mark 2.
It was one of the main reasons for choosing the car.  There just isn't anything else new with anything like the space in such a narrow package. Good for narrow lanes with few passing places and good for car parks stuffed with SUVs.

Passive TPMS - that's why I bought the Jazz. I hate active TPMS - potential problems.
Passive TPMS + easy calibration (https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=17536.msg154296#msg154296) after inflation, that's a big plus with the Jazz.
