Title: Insurance!
Post by: Nicksey on June 05, 2025, 07:57:22 AM
Today I received my new insurance quote, starting the beginning of July. I changed from Aviva 3 years ago after stupidly high increases. I changed to Flow, who were an online company, that quoted me slightly less than my previous Aviva quote (before they tried to increase it). That price was £290.
I stayed with Flow for that first year, and then they became Allianz...
So, 2nd year quote from the now Allianz was £310.. so I accepted.
Last years premium with Allianz was £330, and again I accepted.

This years new quote..... £304!!!  :o

This is for 72' EX Style carrying two 63 year olds, fully comprehensive, 12,000 miles a year, fully protected no claims, legal protection..

This means I will be staying with Allianz for another year  ;D ;D ;D

My recent quote from LV was lower than expected

I'm sure I read somewhere that various claim cons have been stamped on

Crash for cash and false whiplash

Plus insurance now like modern cars with these crash avoidance systems

There's been a lot of publicity about the fact that motor insurance premiums have dropped this year, eg this from Money Saving Expert:

"Car insurance prices are down 18% year-on-year, according to Pearson Ham, meaning NOW could be a good time to secure a better deal. This drop is off the back of huge rises, so don't assume if your renewal stays the same it's a good price. It actually means you're possibly significantly overpaying."

If yours has only dropped from £330 to £304, then you may still be able to do better.

My E went from £523 Allianz (Flow) cheapest from a not unknown company last year to £345 this year best quote with Aviva. Jazz was £456 last year, comes up in September. I'm on over 70 prices now  :(

I dumped AVIVA after 15 years with them. They are a JOKE! eNiro 78 y.o. full NCB I.A.M. Living in Poole (cheap area.) AND I am an AVIVA shareholder!
Aviva jumped from £335. to £550 I asked if they had any loyalty to long standing(never claimed) customers. They basically said "that's the price. Go elsewhere if you wish. So I politely told  them to s*d off.

I went to Tesco  and got it for £385. I Am 80 in January, so watch this space to see how I am treated!!!

I would be interested to know how much  you typically pay for insurance in other countries. With some detail of  how much,if any,  the cost may change for those living in city or rural areas,Younger or older drivers  , annual kilometers, previous history of insurance claims etc.

UK prices on here  are probably for 'fully comprehensive' insurance  -ie third party and including 'casco' for repairs to your own car ), for experienced drivers with a discount of up to 60 % for what we call NCB (no claims Bonus)

Hi from New zealand. Cost for our 2021 car is Nz $850 which includes 15 per cent GST/VAT.
At current exchange rates to UK pound, that comes to about 400 Uk pounds.

Quite happy to do so, BUT my son has insured through you for many years, but a couple of years agog LV beat you hands down! But then I don't know his intimate details, so something may have changed.
I used you years ago for 3 Stags, MX5 etc and always had very good service from AF

I spotted an article by the ABI that it's usually into your 80's when it starts to age increase

Well, I don't know what I'm doing wrong I certainly haven't seen ANY drop in premiums. And I doubt if I will in October when I have to renew  (2 months before my 80th birthday!!  :o
Just to add insult to injury I have to TAX MY EV £190!! from 1/7/25
At least Dick Turpin had the courtesy to wear a mask!! ;D

So, testing the water since the last post of 2 1/2 months ago.

I am currently with Allianz, and my policy is due in one months time.

There are four drivers, ages 79 77 60 and 51. Northwest England, and no license points.
6000 miles per year, car stored on driveway. 22 registered EX model.

Last year I paid £454, this year they are looking at £418. They tell me in the renewal email, that they do not match other companies prices. Unprotected no claims discount of 60%.

Looks like a decent deal,….. but perhaps you know better!

Sounds good, considering the amount of nominated drivers you have. As I stated in the first post, I was with Flow.. who later became Allianz affiliated/merged, and I was more than happy with their renewal.

Update : Jazz was £456 last year Allianz, now £386 protected no claims and over 70.

Comparisons were nothing really better - just save a few 10s of £s with having a tracker fitted to record all your driving habits.

My last years premium with Marketstudy Insurance was £455.88 and I've just changed to Co-Op insurance for £327.88, with the same protection.
It does pay to shop around ,which I always do, it doesn't take much effort and your wallet will swell with all the extra cash !
Regards from Neale. (aged 79 years young)

So, an update from my original post.

I looked at the comparison sites, and of all the quotes listed, none came up cheaper.

So although my current insurer said that they do not match other prices, I delved into their site, to show me what I was covered for. I then found, that effectively, they seem to have three levels of cover on a comprehensive policy. My renewal, showed that I was on the most expensive level.
By removing car hire after a breakdown or accident, foreign breakdown recovery, and UK breakdown assistance, (which I have already got duplicated, with my bank account, and Honda servicing plan), I was able to renew, by clicking on the original email invitation, my reduced benefits policy.

£381 is the answer to your question!

Once you're 80 or over, even if you've been with them for years as was I, LV will no longer insure you.
The same goes for General Accident.
