Hello all. I am currently experiencing intermittent starting problems for a while now. 90% of the time it starts on one go, sometimes it needed 2 tries but maybe once every 2 months it won't start at all. Either we push start or let it rest/cooldown for an hour to start. I noticed this stubborn start can happen when car was fresh from run. I mean restart like less than 0 - 20 minutes rest after a good run. One time I called a recovery service at home because the car won't start at all after I drop my child to school and returned home. As soon as the recovery guy arrived (maybe after more than an hour), the car started perfectly fine so the recovery guy can't diagnose it. Any ideas? Thank you.

Is there any sound from the engine when you get a start failure?
Does the sound come from the starter motor? Or Starter motor plus engine i.e. the engine cranks but there is no ignition due to either no spark or no fuel vapour in the combustion chambers.
Clogged fuel filter?
Air lock in fuel tank - try starting with fuel filler cap removed -TAKE CARE When driving!
Does your Jazz 2008 require the clutch and/or break pedal be to be depressed when starting? If so, faulty sensor?

Could be the car is running a bit fuel rich . ie a bit too much petrol in the fuel/air ratio. Cold starts need a richer fuel mixture and so it starts fine.(In the 'old' days you used some choke). Once the engine is hot the ECU should reduce the proportion of petrol making the fuel mix leaner. But if its still too rich a recently hot engine may not start easily, or become 'flooded' with too much petrol and not start at all.
There could various reasons for it not starting. It not necessarily true that the recovery service cannot diagnose the problem because the car now starts. They can read if there are any fault codes that may help identify the cause. But they may not have the time or a suitable reader to do so.
Sometimes an actual faulty component such as fuel injector, spark plug etc causes the problem. Other other times it may be a faulty sensor giving the ECU incorrect data which it attempts to correct by changing settings, but actually making things worse. Things like air flow, fuel flow, temperature, CO2 level in exhaust gases etc.
I am assuming the car has been recently serviced and is not overheating due to a shortage of coolant etc. Its tempting to start changing sensors ,replacing parts , cleaning parts etc in the hope of stumbling upon a cure. But the cost can add up. It is better to get the ECU read first which may immediately identify the problem.

There is a sound. Not sure if from starter motor but the more i try to start if it refuse to start the shorter the sound becomes. The longer I wait and let it rest the crank is longer. So if i let it cooldown longer like hour it can start fine in one try.

Probably not the issue, but I once had a Honda Accord that started perfectly all winter and all summer .... as long as the car wasn't parked in direct sun on a hot day.
If you pushed the car into the shade, opened the doors and left it for a while, it would then start first time.
Eventually I found a Honda mechanic who knew that the problem was due to faulty soldering on the base of the main fuel injection relay.
Pulled it, took it apart and resoldered the connectors and the problem went away for ever .....

Hi, I am having a similar problem with my 2005 Jazz :-[
Last week, she suddenly wouldn't start, simply cranked without a sign of life. In the end, I replaced the fuel pump fuse, and voila, she started.
Well, that was fine until this morning when I tried to go to the shops, and she's back to just cranking without any sign of firing.
I have not re-checked the fuses yet, as one has to have hands the size of a miniature monkey, to get to them - I weas hoping for some possible guidance before going that route again.
Thanks!
