Hey all!
Today I attempted to replace the rear wheel bearing on our 2008 Jazz. I spent quite a while finding what I thought to be the correct part and when it arrived it all looked fine. After removing the current one and tightening the new one I noticed it was binding so took it off again only to notice they are subtly different.
As you can see in the photo the new one has an extra rubber part. Does anyone know what car the one on the left is supposed to be for? Just about all of the images on google look like the new one and not the one I need, how can I get the correct part?
Many thanks!

Hi There, Could it be that the original one is without ABS ring and the
new one has an ABS ring?. Try this one
Rear Wheel Bearing Hub Fits Honda Jazz 1.2 1.4 02-09 without ABS
Hope this helps Henry

Thanks for your message, our car definitely has ABS (I believe all models with rear discs have ABS). I probably should have mentioned in the first place that ours has rear discs ::)

From the photo it looks like the rubber outer ring has been subject to rotational stress which could be the cause of the binding. The rubber would add to the overall thickness of the bearing which might affect the loading on the bearing when tightened up.
Is it possible that the rubber is merely to protect a precision critical surface from damage or corrosion during storage and should be removed prior to fitting?
I am not a professional, so please dont remove it without expert advice, but it might be a possible line of enquiry.

The part number on the new bearing checks out and as its Blue Print (Febi Bilstein), I wouldn't expect that you would have any problems as I've always found their spares extremely good.
When you say that the bearing is "binding" .... can you be more specific?
A new bearing will always feel as if it has some resistance when you try to spin it by hand, but that resistance will be a "smooth, fluid resistance". It is unlikely that you will be able to "get the wheel spinning freely by hand" with a new bearing installed.

My guess is that the rubber 'outer' - is an oil seal! which should present on the pic of the part you removed!
In video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2o_K2d1TTB0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2o_K2d1TTB0) which I presume is the same MK as yours, there is clearly an inner oil seal. Are the remains of the original seal still sticking on the axle / back plate?? - if so, remove it.
IMHO the hub/bearing combo should roate freely when reassembled on the axle and torqued down.
Warning I have not worked on a Honda Jazz rear axle! so I maybe wrong!! So I stand to be corrected. ;D

That's a good point. The rubber face of thel outer ring on the old bearing is no longer there, so it has either worn away or has broken off and is still in there, presumably?

Have you contacted the vendor who supplied the part? They may be aware of the solution from previous customer enquiries returns or complaints.
If for instance there are known to be two very similar versions some on -line vendors mention this in their listing to minimise the chances of ordering the wrong one.

just one thing worth checking is the backplate cowl even the slightest bend will make it touch the hub .
