Title: High mile driving

Hi,

I have got to drive around 2000 miles a month for work purposes for the next couple of months and I was wondering if there was any tips anyone had on looking after my 2008 petrol Honda jazz.

The clutch has just been replaced two months ago and the brakes have been done.

So I assume it would just be keep an eye on the oil, water levels etc?

Any information would be grate as I ha e just bought the car and it's a good solid car and want yo keep it till I have no choice but to get a new one

I'd just keep an eye on the normal stuff. Oil level, coolant level and tyre condition and pressure.  And dont skimp on servicing intervals . It may need an oil and filter change sooner  rather than later based on mileage rather than just having an annual service.     

I have read that  80% of engine wear  occurs within the first  couple of miles from a cold start.Cold  oil doesn't circulate as freely  and the petrol rich fuel mix used and excess water vapour produced during a cold start  can dilute the oil and wash it away from moving parts, until its hot enough to evaporate away.
 Wear and tear is much less per mile with a hot engine. .   Thats  why taxis can do hundreds of thousands of mile on their original engines. 

Apart from the obvious downside of adding to the cars overall mileage, and consuming consumables such as tyres etc  cars can actually benefit from being used.

Also check that the annual mileage and type of use (sdp/business etc) declared to your insurance company are still correct

Thanks, it only cost me £300 off a friend but want to make it last as long as possible had someone look over it and they said I have got a good car and just want to look after it as best I can't.

First off check for rust rot on a 2008 Jazz if your in the UK.
Always change your oil and Honda filter every year or 7k miles.
Fit quality tyres and maintain correct pressures. Enjoy your Jazz
