This is one of the options I do choose to use in the car but mysteriously stopped working yesterday and I can't get it to turn back on.
In pic 1 you can see it is now Amber, instead of green. When I try to change this pushing the scroll wheel it goes blank, see pic 2.
If I try and access settings through the infotainment screen in the Driver Assist System Setup screen it says 'settings could not be retrieved' see pic 3.
Any ideas I can try for turning the blind spot system back on?(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20231204/c7e2de74df496351b3ba643407f2bb8a.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20231204/8f05c1085ec816c6e71366706349deaf.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20231204/5c23999fe51edd873294ac79637780bf.jpg)

If you have followed the instructions for switching it off and on, as shown in the drivers handbook without success (page 430 in the online version I have) then maybe the orange light is telling you the system is not currently working properly :( The handbook lists various reasons the system may not work properly ,such as splashes, bad weather, interference from nearby electrical equipment , dirty rear bumper etc. If none of these apply you may need to contact the dealership.
-
I have found interference into these systems affected predominantly by dirty windscreen affecting the camera .
-
This system does NOT work with the camera, but with radar sensors in the rear bumper.
-
Thank you for the suggestions it really does help. I don't think it is dirt as the car is still pretty clean. It had its second service last week and the dealer did a valet on it.
Jazzik - do you know where the rear radar is located as I will clean it to eliminate it before going back to the dealer as a last resort

Quite a few things in that list
-
...Does it not use the camera at the front to detect when the vehicle has gone passed?
-
I didn't think so
My thoughts are it just picks up vehicles in a set zone to trigger the warning
-
Indeed. And if I would like to detect if/when the vehicle has gone passed I have my dashcam... ;D

It has nothing to do with windscreen camera detection. The handbook says the radar detectors are inside the rear bumper in the corners .These are still able to detect vehicles along side you until they move far enough ahead to go out of their range. By which time the vehicle is in your line of sight. I had initially assumed the detectors were in the door mirrors, but I think thats just the warning lights.
I think a similar thing happens with the parking sensors. Even when reversing it keeps the two outside front detectors working. Even though you are moving backwards they still operate over a wide enough arc to detect an obstruction if your front wing swings out of line.
-
Just by way of a partial update on this. I spoke to my local dealer and they said to bring it in as the the blind spot system is a part of the the safety package, along with RDMS, where it should default to on every journey and give me the choice to turn it on or off. Clearly it isn’t doing that so I think it has developed a fault.
I will post back after the 11th once they have had a chance to look at it. Be interesting to see if this is a software or hardware issue or just me being dim!

Sods law will dictate that when you get to the dealer it'll be working
Just hope there are some fault codes
-
The blind spot system saved me once, I was about to join the straight ahead lane when a White Van man decided to overtake on the diagonal lines, the warning was enough to avoid an accident. See the aerial view of that junction in attachment.

.. It looks like they used to use the front camera as well but don't anymore.
-
Blind spot info has not yet needed to save me from a mistake that might have caused a crash. But a couple of times its drawn my attention to the presence of a vehicle that I should already have known was there. I should have seen it before it entered my blind spot. :-[ . But ALL drivers make mistakes and not always aware they have made them.
I try to assess every bleep, warning and steering twitch from all the driver aids to decide if its a case of 'driver knows best' and I had it covered , or an indication that I should sharpen my driving skills.
-
I wonder what makes you think that the front camera was used in the past and not anymore?
The front camera is not and to my knowledge never has been used for the blind spot information system...

...Not on the hybrid.
-
Also, the passenger side mirror 'lights' come on/flash when you overtake a vehicle and it drops into that sides blind spot, then turns off when appropriate.
That can't use the front camera
-
I cant see how a 'blind spot' function could have used windscreen sensors even on previous models. The windscreen may detect vehicles or other obstructions ahead, either in your lane or adjacent lanes, and might just be able to continue detecting it as you begin to draw up alongside them. Used for various clever tricks in ACC and other driver aids. But the blind spot function is to detect vehicles that have entered your blind spot from behind. Or because you have partially overtaken them and forgotten they are still in your blind spot. That can only be done by detectors positioned at the rear corners , able to detect backwards, and partially forwards along the sides of the car -

...I can't find the article again that mentioned a front camera (not necessarily windscreen) was used in the past.
Honda had something called Lanewatch which used a camera in the mirror itself. Other manufacturers may have used a windscreen camera, I don't know.
-
Early attempts at blind spot system using mirrors etc sounds more like it.
I believe the OP is taking the car to the dealer . But it just occurred me if the car is an EX it should also have cross traffic monitor , that uses similar technology, possibly even the same radar sensors. Is this still working?

About Honda "LaneWatch":
“What is Honda LaneWatch™ and what does it do?” It’s really very simple actually. Honda LaneWatch™ helps drivers stay informed about what’s happening on the passenger side of their vehicle.
Honda LaneWatch™ uses a camera installed below the right :D, passenger-side mirror to relay an image of the area on the right side of the vehicle to the central display screen.

Blindspot indicators show a sensor on the rear corners of the car.
In practice they continue to indicate until the car has passed which could mean that both the rear censor and the front camera are used.

In my experience the blind spot flashing stops just as the front of the vehicle is in your peripheral vision and before the camera would see it
I'm with the rear bumper radar only mob

In the manual, page 428:
How the system works
• Radar sensors: underneath the
rear bumper corners.

It is an EX model LV so thanks for the heads up. The Cross Traffic monitor says its 'ON' but not sure how I can test if it's working.
Jazzik- thanks for locating the radar sensors. I will roll underneath the back of the car tomorrow morning and see if I can see anything obvious.

...I think we've established that you can post links to manuals by now ;D ???
As mentioned we know how it works on this model.

By way of an update on this issue, on the way across to Gatwick Honda yesterday the system just started working!
As I was booked in I still took it too them and on a scan they found DTC BIE76 and BIE77, so 'short to power in right side BSI radar unit indicator circuit' and 'Open insight side BSI radar unit indicator circuit '
I opted not to have the rear bumper skin removed to investigate further as it appears to be fully working now but I wanted to post this update as it may prove useful to others

"In my experience the blind spot flashing stops just as the front of the vehicle is in your peripheral vision and before the camera would see it

That the blind spot system uses sensors in the rear bumper perhaps also explains why the Cross star, with a different bumper design, does not have this feature.
Having got used to the benefit the system affords on motorways I would not now want to be without it.

ups! - You might come to regret that decision as the problem might reoccur! A "short to power" doesn't sound like something that should be ignored.
-
...I watched mine this morning as traffic passed me. The warning light only went off when the passing car was ahead of me and would've been in the camera's line of sight.
-
Doesn't seem right to me. Maybe they accidentally mounted the radar behind your front bumper...? ;D

Well the problem hasn't resurfaced so whatever caused the system to fail must mysteriously have been very intermittent. I will probably pull the rear bumper skin myself just to check the loom and connector to the radar unit for peace of mind once the weather warms up!

...Off, as in was already on :)

Co-incidental with dealer valet??
-
From the video the radar units and surrounding areas do seem quite dirty . Would seem to suggest it can be vulnerable to weather and road dirt.

...The sensor does well then to detect from the rear bumper all the way to past the front wing.
-
The radar unit has a beamwidth (field of view) that likely extends up the side of the vehicle. In addition the system will probably continue to indicate the presence of a vehicle for a period after it exits the radar beam.
