There has been a lot on the forum about catalyst theft. Is it only prevalent on the Mk1 model with the DSI engine or are later models targets too?
I have a 2011 I-Vtec model.
Sorry if this has been aske before but there may be more info about now.
Vic.

Hi Vic, you should be safe.
On yours, access to the front pipe on the underfloor cat is difficult, the cat is tight up to the front subframe. The smaller warm-up cat is tucked safely up in the engine bay.
You can't say it's impossible to remove, given enough time, but I've never heard of anyone on here losing a cat on a mk2. I have never seen one go through salvage auctions minus its cat either, and you see dozens of mk1s which have been written off for cat theft.
On the 2015-on mk3, everything is up in the engine bay.

You can buy a cat protector on eBay just in case.

Has anyone ever fitted a Catloc or similar to the MK2?

I only know of the MK4 as being hybrid? and I didn't think there were that many around yet.

Wasn't there a Mk2 hybrid that used the same engine/transmission as the Insight, ie; the DSI/CVT set up?
"Let's be careful out there", I've just started watching 'Hill Street Blues again Kremmen.

:) I used to like Belker
Thanks for the hybrid info

Oh I loved that. Has it dated? Where are you watching it? All4?

Yes Richard, there's loads of good stuff on the All4 catch-up system, and it's free.

Hi mate. I too thought it was only the MK1 models that were getting targeted but I've got a 2011 MK2 and mine was nicked in January this year. Have had to redress the parking situation and start looking at fabricating a guard plate or cat protector of some sorts.

S..t! You got me worried now! There are some CatLock or equivalent available on eBay. Let us know if you have fitted one.

This is the first mk2 theft I've heard of, do you know if they cut the front pipe or undid the manifold bolts? I'm suspecting the latter.
These cats are worth a fraction of the mk1 cats, they must be getting desperate!

I was just down at D&G, the garage 4 doors down. The mechanic asked me if I worried about my cat getting nicked. I told him the car was garaged most of the time, but I wondered about getting some form of security.
He told me that a guy came into their Dunfermline depot with fault light on his Mk 1. It was for an O2 sensor, and when they put it up on the ramp, they found out why. The guy had cabling all wrapped around his cat to secure it. The scrotes had had a go at stealing his cat, but when they saw the cabling, the b@$tards jacked the car up on the cat, crushing it. Just for the sake of it. The equivalent of the burglar who $**ts on the bed when he cannot find anything of real value.
