Title: Any ideas what this is?

Any ideas what this "knobbly bit" on the side of the Mk1 headlight is for. Does it serve a purpose (perhaps a running light in another market), or is it just a styling thing? In these days of wind tunnel testing spurious bumps usually mean something. Anyone any ideas?

Just guessing, but I would say it might be...

• something to do with deflecting light coming sideways from the beam?
• acting something like a winglet on a plane, improving airflow along the side of the car?
• entirely decorative, a designer's flourish?

They are quite a bit away from the sidelights and don't show light when sides are on. I wonder if it is an aerofoil to help spray and rain clear off the glass. I see that the Mk2 has a device at the top of the lens.

Theyre for indicators on different headlight set up as far as im aware, well fae what ive seen in pictures. Possibly retrofit headlights

Found this... Suppose it could be another very orange side light location if you spliced the wires lol

They are standard, original, UK lights, and there is nothing behind them. Just the knobbly bits! That looks like someones fancy mod, or side marker lights like my Volvo had, possibly from another market.

I didn't think the Mk 1 was sold in the US market. I thought they started with the Mk 2. Mk 2 has different lights. Doesn't mean they were not marker light is some market.
