David Beckham's 6 month ban for using mobile phone

Somebody help me out here.

Driving back from a funeral down in the midlands yesterday I am stuck on the M6 (Thelwall viaduct) just 3 miles from home. Wife rings me for progress report. I answer the phone - hands free - with the car's own system.

Is my SE Jazz better equipped than whatever posh set of wheels Becks was driving? Gary Neville got done for a similar offence a couple of years ago - top of the range Beemer.

Don't get it.

They possibly consider themselves Teflon coated, or particularly dim ?

Must be something like that.

It's actually easier to use hands free though both calling and answering (I only ever answer and don't stay on for long as it's still distracting).

They weren’t using them as phones but as computers. Facebook or something. Beckham was seen using his phone in his lap. The lure of social media.
