2002 Jazz - Greetings from Portugal!
« on: May 23, 2011, 08:00:23 PM »
Hi everyone!

We have a 2002 (secondhand) 1.2 LS Jazz, bought in 2007, with over 160.000 kms, and no major issues at all.

All in all, we are very happy with it - apart from braking in the wet....  :o That can be scary...

Pros:

- Space
- Modularity
- General quality
- Fuel economy
- Low maintenance

Cons:

- Lack of power
- Brakes
    * Braking in the wet (locks way too easy!)
    * Noisy front disks
- Front lights get 'yellow' quickly
- Mirror posts paint chips away easy.

We have managed to get a whole 3-man sofa bed from IKEA lugged in it (great fun!) with all doors firmly shut, and now that the family is expanding  :D  our only gripe is the un-trusty brakes...

Yet, All in all, we are very happy with the car, and would like to keep it for a long time.

Olá e bem-vindos, as regards the wet braking check the tyre pressures  against those shown inside the door frame driver side, then the tread depth.

I will have to check just that.
I do believe that the braking fault is also due to the low-cost tyres currently fitted, which came with the car, and I can't bring myself to swap for other ones when they are still good.

However (and this is a big however), I haven't tried another Jazz in the wet, to see if the tyres are really that bad... if that was the sole cause, I would swap tyres for sure.

Thank you so much for the welcome and the suggestions!

Thanks to all!

The Bridgestone tyres fitted to UK models with 15" wheels were never that good in the wet IMHO.

Interesting to read you have a 2002 1.2-litre Jazz - here in the UK we didn't get the 1.2-litre engine until late 2004.

That's Portugal for you... Here, you're most likely to find all (if not only) the weakest engines a maker has, and then, most likely, have a full or near-full extras car... oh well  :-X ???
