Title: Replace Central Locking Fob?
Post by: Njazz on September 25, 2018, 12:30:03 PM
Hi All,

Just picked up a 2002 MK1 Jazz SE Sport and was told the central locking worked but just needed a new battery in the key fob, unfortunately I have just tried a new battery in the key fob for the central locking and it still doesn’t work. So how easy is it to replace this? And cost?

Many Thanks.

Hi, it may be that fob does work but just needs synchronised with the car, can't remember exactly how to do it but I found instructions online and the process worked.

Your fob should have a small red light above the buttons which lights up when a button is pressed. Also if your fob has had the casing replaced with a non-original one the batteries can slip out of place causing it to not work, a tiny piece of blutack will hold it in place.

If the fob is faulty, you can buy 2nd hand ones on eBay but you need one with the same code number printed on the circuit board as the original fob, I paid about £20 for one.

If you can't get the original to work I don't know how to tell if it's the fob or the car that's faulty.

Good luck

Forgot to say, when I bought my jazz in 2006, Honda dealer wanted £130 for a new fob.

Battery in the fob now works as I have a red light flash once pressed. Unfortunately this still doesn’t unlock the car so i’m Guessing it’s a program fault or wiring fault in the car?

Read this webpage and try it

https://itstillruns.com/program-honda-remote-key-fob-5763773.html

This will hopefully program your fob to your car

Just done it and while I was sat in the car with the key in the ignition it worked, once I took the key out it failed to work again

Sorry Njazz, that's as far as I had to go with mine, I don't have any idea whether it's the fob or car that's to blame or what else you can do without forking out.

If it has a new battery in the fob, I can only suggest trying the program sequence another couple of times in case it was just some intermittent fluke that it didn't work, failing that I'd have a good search of the internet and youtube for a solution before paying to have it looked at.

No worries Mike thanks for all the help. I’ll keep trying the reprogramming method hopefully it’ll eventually work.

As Mick says, I would keep playing with it - you seem to be so very nearly there.
