The problem with tyre recommendations is that if you get 20 responses, they'll all be different.
To be honest, people can get a bit sniffy about tyres. The last ones I fitted were Coopers, same manufacturer and factory as the Avons, and seem decent enough tyres. As culzean says, the Michelins are popular, wear and mpg are good, but at the expense of outright grip.
Even budget Chinese tyres are perfectly fine for most drivers, the performance, quality and compounds have come on in leaps and bounds over the last few years.
BTW, Avon ZV7 is available in 185/55x16.
