Wierd steering
« on: February 03, 2019, 09:13:45 AM »
Hi all,

I've noticed something very wierd while driving the wifes Jazz.
The steering is slightly heavier when turning in one direction than the other, I've checked tyre pressures and the thread and it all looks ok.
What else could it be?

Thank you in advance.

I would have the tracking checked as hitting both potholes and kerbs can easily bend the steering arms and suspension components possibly causing these symptoms.

I ruined two tyres due to my tracking being out, so I would get it checked. Most tyre places do a free check and only charge you if adjustment is needed. The last time I had tyres fitted, Farmer Autocare did this for me, and as tracking was fine there was no charge.

Hi, my my 2 jazz went into garage for a service and can out with exactly the same symptoms, they denied all responsibility of course, had warranty with the vehicle and a new steering rack was put on but made no difference. My suspicions are that perhaps it slipped whilst on the ramp or something like that.

Hi,

No, I've not had the chance to get the tracking checked.
Will do this first and see if anything comes up, but it is very strange as even when the car is stationery steering to the right is a lot heavier than steering to the left.

Did you ever find a reason for this issue, was 5e tracking ok?  Thanks.

Discovered this old thread but someone might read this. I have had steering issues on the mark 2 and mark 3 jazz. Steering assistance was varying as I turned the wheel. It was caused by lack of lubrication of the sliding switch on the steering column which provides information to the electric assisted steering.

I removed the inspection panel in the front footwell and dribbled wd40 down the column. This seemed to fix the problem.
