Slight clutch judder...
« on: August 04, 2016, 07:37:52 PM »
Hi all.

Havn't been on here for a long time,  had the Jazz ex since December.

Its now covered 17'000 miles and it's smooth , nice to drive and a good package of a car.

Only recent issue is noticable clutch judder , but only on very first pull away on cold starts and when queueing with cold engine in heavy traffic.
I can feel it more on cold starts , a definite 3 or 4 judders as i pull forward in first gear only.

Now i reckon it should be smooth & light.

Honda are taking it in next Monday after a saw them this evening....must admit they weren't as helpful as i would have liked them to be about it.
But.....i was insistent that it was corrected , firm and insistent.

Lets see what happens......

Can sometimes be caused by damp, if it's  humid or wet the metal pressure plate and the flywheel will have moisture on them, this makes them grabby at first, once warm the condensation evaporates and clutch is smooth again,  brakes can do a similar thing, this often manafes it's self as very sharp brakes when first applied

Ah ha !

Yes i noticed very sharp brakes occasionally,  it all makes perfect sense.

But....will Honda do anything about it,  or claim ' its the way it is ' .

Guess I'll find out next Thursday....

And.. .thank you.

it happens on my Jazz too when drivetrain is cold. Not dump, though, since my car sleeps in a garage and my city is not that dump (southern Europe, spring/summer)

If condensation is the cause there wont be much they can do, its just one of those things,  as part of my last job i drove lots of different car, vans etc, they all do it to some extent, its worth checking though as a misting of oil can give similar symptoms initially but will later develop into a slipping clutch,  highly unlikely but as the car is under warranty you may as well

bit of light reading on clutches,  tried to attach the PDF but too large.

link may not work direct from post - may have to copy and paste into browser search

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Mine has always done that when cold for the first pullaway, but it hasn't got any worse in 85k miles.

Well , after your kind comments and learning what is causing this.

I've decided to cancel the work,  after all having the car ripped apart and not getting anywhere wasn't a good idea.

It probably wouldn't have driven the same again.

I'll just live with it , like most of you kind folk.

Thank yoooooo.
