Spare tyre regulations
« on: August 18, 2015, 10:13:52 PM »
Hi, would value your advice about using a spare wheel on the road, there is on eBay some spare wheels that are just painted black without any labels about speed etc, are these legal to use as is.

Many thanks for your help.

Are they space saver wheels? Sounds like they are a standard steel rim in black?

Page 2 July 30th I posted an article which included my Insurers answer to the question regarding the use  of a second hand space saver tyre/wheel.
My Insurers Royal Sun Alliance via my broker answered with what I thought was a comprehensive reply.
All I can say in the light of some Insurers asking for 'extra' on non standard accessories, check with your Insurer. Having said that I would have thought the answer from 'More Than' being a respected Insurer, would be an indicator of the attitude of the Insurance industry in general.
BUT if in doubt check!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply, does this mean that I need to get a 50mph sticker?

You need to search the Forum about spare wheels, there you will find the dimensions needed for a spare wheel/tyre. You cannot just buy any spacesaver or spare wheel, either it won't fit or even worse the centre hole etc might be too big. If you fit a wheel not approved for the Jazz your insurance would be void in an accident.

The picture of the wheel looks like my Honda spacesaver spare without the 50mph warning sticker but maybe all spacesavers look alike !.
I am not sure if it says max 50mph on the tyre as well but I think it does say 60 lbs/sq inch for pressure.

Vic.

Vic- so do you think that it is an original Honda wheel ?
Thanks for your reply.
