Any smell of petrol must be investigated without delay!

Definitely not normal unless there is a leak.

Could it be a leak somewhere in the fuel system?

This morning i checked all fuel lines from the tank to engine ,the fuel rail ,pipe from filler to tank and no visable leaks, ran the engine still no evidence,it seemed to start smelling after filling up last thursday,so its a bit of a mystery.

Could be any of the above,  but the Jazz petrol tank is under the front seats and there is a cover under the handbrake that gives access to the petrol pump and fuel filter - you don't say how old the car is but if this cover has ever been removed to replace filter or pump and not sealed properly then fumes could escape from it.

Check if smell is stronger around handbrake area.

If you say you filled-up last Thursday, and due to HM Goernment advice to top-up before the impending Tanker strike.

Did you inadvertantly overfill your tank to ensure the tank was full to the brim.  That would deffinitely cause a petrol smell, as you now say that the petrol smell has gone.

p.s. I am not accusing you of Panic Buying

You are right I didn't panic buy as I was only allowed £20 and it put the gauge at half way,so i don't know :-\

did you get every last drop in? could have had a drop or 2 come out when you put the nozel away splashed on the car causing the smell? (found a nice surprise on occasion when people havent got the last few drops and you get about 35ml for free...maybe slightly more/less..but hey its a tiny drop of free petrol) either way it seems that its nothing to worry about now :)
