Honda jazz 2017 ex cvt battery replacement
« on: September 19, 2023, 10:41:54 PM »
Hi everybody

Hope you are all well. I was hoping for some kind assistance please. M my mum has a Honda 2017 ex cvt and the battery seems knackered. There doesn't seem to be much choice to replace it. On cox they are selling a yuasa with a Honda sticker on it? Is this the only choice, as when I had a halfords guy come replace a battery for another car when I showed him this battery he said it wasn't stop start. Would appreciate if anybody knows of good cheaper compatible batteries for this car. Many thanks

As far I can see, none of listed batteries by Tanya is good for start and stop, the only matching parameter is size.
Jazz GK series wants one of the following EFB battery:

OEM, 31500-T4P-U01 replaced by 31500-T5A-G11
Yuasa YBX7053
MIDAC Itineris EFB JIS IT55J EFB
FIAMM ECOFORCE AFB TRN45
SAF M043503 EFB (use terminal adapters)
Banner 55515
Napa AFB158N
Enduroline 048EFB

Maybe there are some other models fitting in the slot, I don't know, would be great adding them to this post.
Using a non EFB or AFB battery (AGM or standard lead-acid) will affect the battery lifespan.

I purchased the correct Honda replacement from Cox and it was the same price or cheaper  than every supplier I checked out including Tayna

cox motor parts check if the battery is suitable  for your car from the registration number.

I have a Jazz EX I-VTEC CVT, 2017 Mk3.
The 12v battery has a rather anonymous label 'LB505' adjacent to which is 'YM' in a circle which I guess means it was made by Yuasa?
@jazzaro
Can you consider adding to your list - BEFORE YOU DO - the Auto Idle Stop Start function has failed to work for approx. 9 months!! - perhaps LB505 is wrong for my vehicle!!

The original Honda supplied battery and the replacement from Cox are identical, on the top it states manufactured by Yuasa and stop/ start.

This is a common issue for the Mk3 Jazz, there are many other comments in this forum about it. Honda's design for the Stop-Start system seems to be extremely conservative, and the computer won't stop the engine unless a whole raft of parameters are exactly correct (check the handbook for the full list). Failure of the S/S to operate (often with the battery indicator on the display) does not necessarily mean your battery is on it's last legs.

Here's the stop-start checklist I was given for the Mk 2 HR-V and expect the Mk 3 Jazz to be the same. Honda doesn't want the engine to stop if there's a remote chance of it not instantly starting when needed.

Hi what i dont understand is what is the difference between the battery from cox and the yuasa 7053? Are they the same because the Honda one is more expensiclve and I have  seen the 7053 for around £90. Thank you

Yes I've read that long list (too long to memorise!)- After many attempt to fix, from  this and other forums and ChatGPT I've given up. The Honda still starts ok and the tick-over appears to be sub 1000rpm - when the LB505 (was it the original battery??) I might let my local dealer take a look, but labour charges are bit of a turn off, then I'll raid the piggy bank and get a replacement.
My comment was just a warning that what is fitted to my Jazz may not be suitable for the OP's Jazz

Yep, these are the main parameters for s&s activation. Then there must be some others, the ECU must know if the battery is "deteriorated" so other values (voltage before and after crank, initial voltage, time to re-gain initial voltage, ...) will be considered.
