0-62 times, BHP and Kerbweight
« on: May 01, 2013, 01:17:23 PM »
Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a Honda Jazz, and have noticed that the 0-62 times, BHP and Kerbweight can differ slightly, even on the same year/trim level.
The sort of car I'm looking at is an 03/04 model 1.4 i-DSI, SE trim, manual.

According to autotrader, it has 82 bhp, and a kerbweight of either 1041kg or 950kg, and a difference in 0-62 times, between 13.3 (for the heavier car) or 12 seconds.

According to Parkers, the S and SE Sport have 82 bhp, and 0-60 in 11.6, while the SE has either 80 bhp (for the 1.4i-DSI) or 81 bhp (for the 1.4 i-DSI), and an identical 0-60 time of 12.9. The only difference being the space in between the 1.4 and the i-DSI.
It also says that 0-60 for the 1.2 S is 13.3 seconds, could autotrader be quoting for this model instead?

So, is there any difference between 1.4i-DSI and 1.4 i-DSI, and what is the true 0-60, bhp and kerbweight of the 2003/2004 1.4 SE Manual Jazz?

Many thanks in advance,
minnis

Minnis,  The figures you quote are within the bounds of experimental error and we are, after all, talking about a Honda Jazz not a Ferrari or Lambhorgini.

Even the DSi engine thrives on revs so don't be afraid to red-line it occasionally when overtaking.

If you pump up the tyres a bit harder (say 15%) and drive it by yourself, you might achieve these figures.  That is with a hot engine and new, low viscosity oil.  Maybe take out the spare wheel too

You have not got Jeremy Clarkson testing the car, only Joe Citizen.  0 to 100km/hour isn't really relative, the 40km to 60km and 60km to 80km/hour times are more important for regular driving (IMO)

Oh I fully understand I won't get anywhere near those figures, it was more out of curiosity. After all, 1.3 seconds and 100kg is an awful lot of a difference for cars that are identical in terms of spec, engine etc. I was just wondering if there was some reason for it. I'm not worried about the actual time, as I've sat in it and find it quick enough. I was just wondering :).

I weighed my car at work.

half tank of fuel, and the rack on top, plus all my crap i carry around in the boot gave me 1070kg.

Car is an 05 sport
