Now this is longevity from a motor. 1,000,000 miles, on the original Nissan engine, in a Coventry-built LTI TX1 bought in 2001.

Datsun ( became Datsun-Nissan and then Nissan ) were heavily involved with Austin and used Austin engines and then developed their own ( and in typical Japanese fashion made a much better product ).

The old 2.7 Nissan diesel is indestructible, I've got one in a Terrano.

No cambelt or chain, lovely.   ;)

Gear driven, the old fashioned OHV way.

I had a 1952 Wolseley 4/50 which had a shaft driven OHC.

Nice car! Vertical shaft drive to the cam with helical cut bevel gears - another engine to use this method was the Rolls-Royce Merlin.

We had that back in 1968. I wish I had it now!

I always liked the look of the old Wolseleys. You would want a few quid to buy one of those in that condition now!

Certainly more than the £30 we paid for that one. From a garage!

My brother's Honda VFR750 V4 motorbike has gear driven cams.  Engine makers had a habit of making one of the driving gears out of tufnol composite to get rid of the noise of the gears, then I believe they went to a non-ferrous alloy, do they still do that ? No doubt we have better plastic composites than tufnol now.
