Good news, glad to learn your back on the road.
Looks like a comprehensive overhaul at a spot-on price

did they say anything about the clutch wear/replacement @100,000 miles? I know this is largely dependent on the way it is driven but I seem to recall your man said leave it.
In the case of the Jazz, Top Gear do not remove the bell housing from the engine, so they don't go anywhere near the clutch. Robin did say however, that they do not recommend replacing a clutch unless it is giving problems.

That is a very good price. Makes me almost wish I had driven all that way to save almost half the price I paid.

After dropping it off I had a 3 hour bus journey home, and the same back the next day to collect it. Well worth the hassle for the price. My local garage (one minute walk) wanted £900 - £1000 to do the job!

Yes. I remember the discussion on the thread. Thanks. That's worked out well. Need to think about mine now.

The car is absolutely brilliant. It is whisper quiet and the gear change is smooth and slick, not that I had any complaints about the action. However, it is even sweeter now.
The cost was £270.00 + VAT, for a total of £324.00. For that they have supplied and fitted ALL the bearings and seals, filling the box with Honda MTF. The repair comes with a 12 month, unlimited mileage guarantee

I just checked in so see how it went Jocko, glad to hear it's been a success. Looks like a complete bearing & seal kit has been used, and the bonus of a improved gear change will no doubt be due to the fresh oil. Sounds like a great job done, at a very fair price indeed.

I found some drawings of the gearbox, and it is possible to change the input shaft seal from inside once everything is removed, so it is indeed possible to do the gearbox by splitting it in situ. It's an unorthodox method, potentially fiddly, but it obviously works - and the results speak for themselves.

The only thing to watch out for now is any leaks from the gearbox where it was split, but if everything was cleaned thoroughly before reassembly, there shouldn't be a problem. It sounds like they know what they're doing.

It sounds like they know what they're doing.
The company has been going, successfully, for over 30 years, and they do a huge range of vehicles including classic cars. They only do transmissions and according to their blurb "Some gearboxes can be repaired without being removed from the car, in particular we are able to offer significant savings by fitting bearings to Honda transmissions in situ." and as Robin said, the do quite a number of Jazz gearboxes and are very good at it!

I think this illustrates that, in the case of specialist work, it can be worth spending a bit of time and money getting to a highly rated specialist when there aren't any in your own area.

Every time I get in the car I cannot get over how quiet it is. It is a joy to drive now, and any excuse sees me taking it for a spin. I am so thrilled I even ordered a new set of tailored loose mats to replace the worn and ill fitting mats I have at present.
I just cannot get over it. It is like having a new car! I realise now that the gearbox has been noisy the entire time I have owned the car, even though it only got really noisy recently.

You and the car have definitely got your mojo back! ;D

You'll be washing and polishing it next!

You see, I told you not to get rid of it!

Watch that washing and polishing, you'll have no paint left.

What mats have you ordered? My drivers side mat is shot and I need a new one but I cannot find just the drivers side mat for sale anywhere.

I know Cox's motor parts used to sell single drivers mats - don't know if they still do.
