coolant capacity
« on: July 23, 2017, 07:55:45 PM »

Anyone have the capacity for a 1.4 VTEC?  It is iSHIFT.

I assume that members are just playing it safe using Gen Honda coolant?

I always find it difficult to see what the engine coolant level is due to the bottle position... might sound dumb but is there a better way to check this at all? struggle to see the fluid level between the min max markers as they are quite far down.

Anyone else have this problem?

I find it a pain in the ar**. Found that the best way is to unscrew the top of the bottle and peer inside. Even using a torch is not an alternative, as the bottle is so thick and fairly opaque.

Use something as a dip stick, the pointless dipstick on the washer bottle is ideal. Wipe it dry before you put it back in the washer bottle.
Another way to check the level is to rock the car from side to side and watch for the coolant to move.

I have never needed to add any water to the coolant system since getting the car, so now I check the level very infrequently. Only before long journeys in fact. And at my age, if it does run out of water, I can always manage a pee to top it up!
