1.2 or 1.4 Jazz Engine?
« on: September 13, 2016, 08:56:13 AM »
Hi fellow Jazz Owners - I recently purchased a 2005 Mk1 Jazz 1246cc cheap from a guy who had run it short of oil! Yep - the bottom end is knockin' loudly!! Anyway have bought a warranted 2nd hand Jazz engine from a 2006 Jazz off ebay but before I start the engine swap, I need to make sure it is definitely a 1246cc. The guy said all 2002 - 2008 Jazz's are 1246cc but I don't think he's correct? Any help on identifying the engine I've bought would be great - there's a number stamped on the side of the block which I gave to the local Honda dealer but he could not identify the engine from this number, so I'm a bit confused. Anyone out there who can shed some light on the problem? Thanks guys.

MK1 was offered in 1.2 as well as 1.4 iDSI engines.
If you check your VIN plate it should tell you what engine did it come with: L12A or L13A

I suppose the new engine block will show the code on the front right just next to the starter motor.

No visible difference between the two sizes as far as I'm aware apart from the codes, you should be able to swap a 1.2 & 1.4 if you wished, but there is a slight difference between manual and CVT engines - the crank position sensor is different and there might be other sensor differences.  One other thing to look out for is whether it has a cable operated throttle or an electronic throttle body.

Many thanks for your help guys! - I am trying to get the VIN off the guy who sold me the engine. Anyway if it's not too much trouble as you say, even if I've bought a L13A engine, I will start to do the engine swap at the weekend and keep you posted.
