Gotta love the technicians
« on: April 11, 2016, 05:31:33 PM »
Each time my car does for a service, Honda tell me that the rear brake discs are wearing low and should be changed at the next service. Now in my opinion they aren't as bad as the front pads that have a lip on the edge, so I thought I would take them to a local brake specialist.
The guys at Brake Station measure the discs, and compare this against the manufacturers speciafication, both front and rear discs are within 0.5mm of Hondas minimum acceptable width, so Honda were indeed correct.
Brake Stations advice is "The discs are needing changing, but the pads are still only 60% worn, so you might as well take the pads to the metal as the discs are knackered anyway".
New discs and pads all round £340, bargain !

So, with 200,000 miles in sight you are starting to move on to the less frequent parts replacement.

I think the front discs were changed around 80k, but I think the rears are still the original discs.

Says something for your teaching skills.

the discs will probably last longer if they get used regularly don't keep going rusty after 1 or 2 days left unused.  modern discs seem to rust very quickly and this rust gets scraped off you lose a layer of steel and a layer off the pad unfortunately
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot
