Car top box and bars
« on: April 13, 2018, 04:51:04 PM »
Hi,
Need to get a top box and bars for when we go camping. Looked at the thule, they're having a laugh, how much? 200 squid for a set of wingbars 😂😂 anyway found the roofbox company online and the roady 4000 with screw down claw type clamps plus a set of cruz alloy wing bars as a package comes in at about £315, equivalent at halfords runs at £450! Anyone used roofbox co? Any comments? Ordering next week,
Chris

Can't comment but Thule fit well and are easy to sell on. I used to deal in used Thule kit and fitted various combinations to my wife's jazz when needed. The only specific bit you need is the Thule fitting kit. It will work with old Thule 750 or current 754 feet, and Exodus FP4 feet (Made by Thule), plus any Thule or Exodus bars of the correct length. Just note that if you use old 750s with wing bars, there's no locking option.

Whichever combination you use make sure the U bolts used for securing the box to the bars are wide enough to fit over the roof bars, otherwise can be a pain, speaking from experience  :'(

I used them 2 years ago, got a hapro roady 350 with thule square bars, footpads and fitting kit, can't remember the price but it was a good deal and the company provides a good service.
As I've changed cars I sold the footpads and fitting kit on ebay, they sold within 24 hours, no probs.
I don't know about Cruz bars but was impressed with the thule ones, they were rock solid when fitted. The hapro box was a bit of a faff to assemble the two halves but once fitted it was pretty good.

I have an old 750 foot pack from a hrv which I'm going to be using on this jazz with my 1465 fitting fit. I'm just waiting for some bars to come up somewhere cheap enough and I'm tempted by a 761 which is 7cm shorter than the recommended 769. I know on the gd and gk they recommend a 761 so that's why I think I should be able to get away with it on the gg. Also on the fit I've noticed they use 120cm bars which are a 761 size.

Why go shorter?

Why go shorter?
Mainly weight and aerodynamics
Every little helps
