Placed a deposit on a jazz - advice please
« on: April 11, 2019, 06:59:37 PM »
Hi

I placed a deposit on an Orange 2016 1.3 I-VTEC SE (S/S) 5DR. 33,000 miles with full service history.

I'm getting it checked out by "Click Mechanic" service tomorrow before I hand over all the money, but there are a few questions, I wonder if anybody could offer answers.

1) I notice some of the electric windows are sluggish going up and down, I'm guessing they are dirty. If it's the motor how much would it cost to fix per window? Is it easy to clean otherwise? (I'm no car mechanic).

2) I notice when reversing, if the left side is near a wall the right sensor is indicated on the screen. If the right side is near the wall the left sensor is indicated on the screen. I think it's simply wired up wrong. Is this a known issue and/or an easy fix?

3) Please advise about orange touch up paint.

4) It will need a service at 50,000 miles. Any advice? Just go to an official garage?

5) Any advice on warranty.

The garage is offering (4) + (5) but they are an unofficial garage. I may take them up.

Thanks for your help!!

This car may still be covered by the manufacturers guarantee depending on when it was first registered.
If it is get Honda to sort it out.

We bought a late 2015 Sunset orange SE S/S last December and the paint is very thin and no colour at all under bonnet and inside petrol flap.  Honda do a small touch up kit with colour code YR585 which has the orange base coat and a clear lacquer (with applicators) for small marks.
As for electric windows I would doubt any problem with motors if they go up and down but sluggish.  The vendor could be asked to sort it, it could just be that the guide rubbers are a bit dry.  I occasionally use a bit of furniture polish, like Pledge sprayed down the channels which improves them no end and puts less strain on the mech and motor.  This has been on other cars, Jazz is OK at the mo.

Sounds like the bumper has been off for some reason - tow bar fitting? accident damage? and they have fitted then in the wrong sockets.  Look closely at the fit of the bumper where it meets the rear quarter panels - should be all in line and no variable gaps.

Let us know how you get on

Ian

Interesting.

Car was registered January 2016, according to website warranty is three years. So I wonder if warranty gets transferred? I guess I should ring up Honda tomorrow:

Make sure it's not a Cat c/d and has full service history. You can have service done at a local independent if you know of one. It will be cheaper.

Well I've had a check on the Jazz, and I'm glad I did.
It's structurally sound however according to report:

Locks - In working condition however before locking doesn't work on the fob (Pressed lock on the fob but did not lock, but does unlock with fob. When I took it for road test it shows one of the doors open so had to go around and close them until light went out, maybe one of the door switches is being sticky and may prevent locking, but then it would lock manually).

Body damage - In working condition, NSF front bumper scuff been resprayed, Rear OSR lamp cracked/chipped, Rear logo cracked, Past repairs evident,

Past Repair Evident - In working condition, Front bumper resprayed, Rear bumper been replaced/resprayed, Hence rear sensors are incorrectly unplugged.

Jack missing.

Could not get cruise control to work

It's 2016 car (33,000 miles) 1.3 I-VTEC SE (S/S) 5DR and is £7900 standalone.

Or if I buy it for £8300 price includes:
£150 HPI Indemity - Can't I do this myself - shouldn't I check this myself? Anywhere I can do it? Apparently they must do it by law?
New MOT (No advisories).
12 month warranty and service.

Now they previously told me it hadn't had any crashes - ouch! I guess I need to check further info like insurance writeoff checks (what's the best place) - it's listed as OK under Autotrader however, so I wonder if I need to anything else?

Still quite like the car though...!  :o

Walk away from this car!!

Better to buy from a Honda dealer that has to maintain standards. A 3 year Honda extended warranty should cost £699.

I get what you are saying and I'm close to it.

But if they fix everything and I get a discount? I'm on a budget.
The current value of it is a mind boggle.
Driving is good, inspector otherwise found nothing majorly wrong (I was very satisfied with the inspector, he did a really good job). Previous owners look like pensioners who don't know how to park.

OH I forgot to say, they say they will fix everything if I pay for their service/warranty, I've asked them to put it all in writing exactly what they are fixing. Service history looks good.

This deal is rubbish..

Walk away from this car and this dealer.

Do NOT buy this car.

You'll find better for your money. Lots on Auto Trader.

The car should be in excellent condition. What you are describing is awful.

Always do the HPI check independent of the dealer - even a main dealer.

https://www.hpi.co.uk/hpi-car-check.html

Full Cost of Full HPI Check = £20. Includes write off check etc etc.

You are covered by the Consumer Rights Act of 2015, talk to your local Citizens Advice , write to the garage tell them they are required to refund your deposit, there are 100's of good cars out there.

These days it worth checking MOT history & HPI check before agreeing a deal

I get you.

I can't find 3rd generation anywhere near London this cheap however, there aren't lots on autotrader unfortunately unless I want to hike all over the country..
