Ignition coils - vast price difference!?
« on: April 13, 2020, 05:33:17 PM »
I'm looking to replace a rear / outlet ignition coil on my Honda Jazz. I have found a few tutorials and it seems easy enough but when ordering the coil I found a vast price difference. From £20 to over £100 :o. I get that some brands are more expensive than others and some dealers charge more but this seems a bit extreme, especially since the £20 is from bremi (what I would have thought is a good brand).

£20: https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/bremi-7514892.html

£100: https://www.gsfcarparts.com/925ho0110

Am I comparing them right? What should they cost?

Try to get Hitachi ones if you can - try ebay

You probably already know that front and rear coils are not interchangeable,  although all 4 front are same,  and all 4 rear are the same ( different length and mounting ).

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Bremi is a good make as they are used as O/E on german cars and at £20 each seems pretty reasonable. I had to replace the rear sets on my 2 Jazz's previously, first set was from Lucas at approx £30 each and second set was from Blue print approx £26 each and so far all has performed well. I would not take a chance on used ones from ebay as you wont know what the condition is like especially as the coils only tend to fail intermittently. And dont forget to replace the complete set, meaning all 4. For some reason or another only the rear coils seem to fail, the front ones are okay. I only knew that because my Honda dealer whom I am on very good terms with told me so. They should be familiar with all the common failures on all the various models Honda. Symptons of rear coil failures is normally a flat spot or momentary hesitation on light throttle applications.

What happens is the rear plugs don't get changed, the gaps end up huge, this puts a strain on the coil pack and they then fail.
