Mk1 Jazz 1.4 Petrol, cutting out intermittently
« on: April 24, 2019, 11:30:05 PM »
Hello

Posting on behalf of a friend. His 1.4 Jazz (petrol) cuts out on startup first few turns of the key but infrequently. The auto choke also won't knock off. Not sure if it is related. Does anyone have any ideas of what to check or has anyone had anything similar? Thank you.

There isn't an auto choke on a Jazz. It is fuel injected and the ECU controls the tick over. Normally a problem would cause the Engine management light to come on and generate a fault code. I would replace the spark plugs and go from there.

Is he attempting to pull away when the engine cuts out?

It sounds like he is stalling the car. I have found mine really easy to stall. You start getting used to it a  bit more with time but I still stall mine quite regularly until I figure out the optimal biting bit, throttle etc.

Could be a loose connection on the starter motor
