The tabloids are making a big thing about "not said sorry", but surely, one of the first things you are told as a driver is never to say sorry after an accident, as that could be construed as an admission of guilt. For "Joe public" that could result in your insurer washing their hands of the whole business.

If, as reported, being blinded by the sun was a possible contributary factor then I know that my eyes (somewhat younger than DoE) can't handle rapidly changing lighting conditions as well as they used to. Perhaps this aspect should be part of the eyesight test. Ability to read a number plate doesn't mean everything is OK.
