CVT noise cold
« on: June 09, 2018, 07:59:26 PM »
I have a 1.4 Jazz and the CVT makes a strange noise when decelerating for the first few miles. The noise is hard to describe but it's like an moaning whining sound. The gearbox is fine warm and hot with no juddering or noticeable slipping. Oil changed at 25K now at 39K so due again at 50K.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this noise is worrying and annoying.

The recommended CVT fluid change interval for your Jazz (2011 means MY 2012) on the Honda standard service checklist is 25k miles / 2 years. Fluid degradation is likely a function of both time and distance. If the vehicle is around 7 years old then there should have been three fluid changes. I'd change the fluid before hunting for other problems.

The car is at 39K and had the  CVT fluid changed at 25K, so that should be okay.

Yes, but is it more than 2 years since it was changed?
It is the lesser of the two. 25,000 miles or 2 years. You should change it after 2 years even if it has only done 10,000 miles.

+1

Change every 2 years or 25,000 miles - which ever comes first

and ONLY use Honda CVT fluid .

CVT oil changed last year at 25K using genuine Honda CVT fluid. Level is correct. No metal filings on the drain bung magnet when the oil was drained.

Anyone else getting odd noises when decelerating with a cold gearbox.
