Well off tangent. That seems to be the way of the best conversations. They start off in one place, meander in and out, and end up somewhere completely different!

Ha, Ha welcome to clubjazz - where they do things differently - mainly down to its older membership I fear

As I have said elsewhere, my wife doesn't drive. She is not all that aware of what the car is doing, taking months to realize my gearbox was howling like a troupe of monkeys. However, today I was trying to join a busy roundabout where the A720 City bypass joins the main A1. As I eventually got a gap that allowed me to join the traffic she commented,
"It takes away like a sledge without snow". Sums it up perfectly. Not the most spirited of vehicles.

You sound a little disenchanted of late. Easy to forget that some of us have a massive 141cc extra to spare. Never really understood why they bothered to offer the two engines with so little between them but I guess if you sat down and calculated the power to weight ratio it might possibly make sense. Possibly. I still think they are a great all round practical vehicle with that reputation for reliability being the icing on the cake. On balance, I am OK with that.

PS - Quick calc suggests a straight line, pound for pound advantage of @3% to the 1.3 (AKA 1.4) !!!

Honda engines are legendary. I do believe that a version of the Jazz engine is (was) used as a spec engine in an open wheel race car series in America.

It was used in Formula F, I believe.

Whether that is still the case, I don't know.

Jazz engine also used as Marine outboard engine, aircraft engine (Viking aircraft USA  ) and half of it used as twin cylinder motorbike engine (Honda NC700 commuter bike ).

This afternoon, with a nicely warmed engine, from a standing start I joined the Sheriffhall Roundabout (above) at the 12 o'clock position. I was in 5th before leaving at the 5 o'clock position. That's flexible.

Ah, but you didn't mention what speed you were doing when you approached the roundabout though...

So you had at least a car's length to get those wheels spinning and into second gear, if not higher if you are a shift shortcutter. Fair enough.

Had the car up to a heady 4377 rpm yesterday (ScanGauge E recorded). It is amazing what a quiet gearbox lets you do. Car pulls really well once you get it up there, but the indicated instantaneous mpg of 12.1 means I probably won't be making a habit of it!

OK. Missed it. Thought it might be the rejunated gearbox!

PS - Got a few quotes nearer me. £300 plus VAT is the best. Time to make a decision.
