Mk3 model longevity?
« on: August 23, 2018, 10:12:14 AM »
Hi all.

I hope you are all out enjoying your Jazz's!?

Out of interest, do you think the current Mk3 Jazz will be replaced after a 6 or 7 year run?

So that would mean a replacement in 2021/2022.

I must get a Sport before they finish the Mk3!!  8)

What are your thoughts?

Cheers all.......... Clarkie.

As 2018 was the mid life facelift, a 2021 /2022 replacement seems reasonable. If worldwide sales hold up Honda might extend it a bit but I would expect the replacement is well into its development by now. The big hint will be when Japan gets the replacement.

Nice one cheers.

How long after Japan do when tend to have to wait for a replacement?

No idea, I am only a recent Jazz owner so I don't know what the normal lead time is.

Have you heard that it'll be 2020 in Japan?

I didn't realise we got a new model 2 years after Japan!!

We had to wait eight months for the Mk1, a year for the Mk2 and two years for the Mk3. 2022 is unlikely, I don't think Honda will sell a nine year old design, and Mk3 Jazzes are presumably made in the same factory as the Japanese models, unlike previous generations that eventually were moved elsewhere.

The MK3 is built in nine plants around the world. The UK models are from Japan.

Assembly
Yorii, Japan
Sumaré, Brazil
Ayutthaya, Thailand
Pingtung, Taiwan
Karawang, Indonesia
Malacca, Malaysia
Guangzhou, China (Guangqi Honda)
Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico (from Feb 2014)
Tapukara, India (from Jan 2015)

And they were of better quality when made in Swindon, UK.

Sadly the idiocy of Brexit makes bringing Jazz manufacture back to these shores even more unlikely.

Really, do explain. I have had no quality issues with my two Japanese built Jazzes. I stopped buying British built cars decades ago, the quality was appaling.

I seem to recall Honda looking to go big on EV's from 2022 onwards. I wonder if this will affect thinking about a Jazz replacement.

I've already mentioned this several times. The only Honda I've ever had any problems with was my current Mk3 Jazz which was the first Honda I bought that wasn't built in the UK.

The problem with British built cars in the 70s/80s and early 90s was down to incompetent management and union interference. With decent management in place and the unions reigned in the British workers were able to do the excellent job there were capable of.

So one below par car gives all foreign built cars a poor quality reputation. As I have said before a few complaints are far outweighed by thousands of faultless cars. You have said your car only seems to be reluctant to start at your house, not at work, is there anything like RF interference that could be causing a problem. I know it can cause a problem with remote car locking. My remote controlled garage door does not work from the remote control when next doors vaccum cleaner is running. Are you near overhead power lines or substations, airport radar (not necessarily near an airport), or any military installations or other powerful transmitters? I can't remember, has your car ever failed to start or is it just a bit slow to fire up sometimes?

My last Mk 2 was made in Swindon and was excellent. My current Mk3 was made in Japan and, build quality wise, is excellent as well. Any annoyances I have are down to functionality rather than any quality issues.

My Mk 1 is Japanese made, and I have no concerns about build quality. It is a beautifully put together wee car.
