Title: Tyres for 16" wheels
Post by: Paulwhitt20 on October 15, 2018, 10:53:28 AM
Hi,

What tyres are people putting on the 16" wheels these days? Will need to replace the rears soon.

Thanks

Paul

What do you have on the front?

I went with Michelin ES on the advice of a few here and am impressed. They've been on the car for 1.5 years (~25k miles) and are all above 5mm. They'll probably get me through winter albeit only just. I prefer never to go into winter with less than 4mm of tread so they are getting close but with luck they'll last through summer for over 2 years of service which ain't bad.

The Dunlops that Honda put on from new were awful (https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=8897.0).

My 2017 SE CVT has Michelin ES as standard fitment. I'm impressed so far. I think they are going to outlast the Dunlop 2030s I had on the Mk2. Handling and road noise good as well although I rarely push the car anywhere near the limits.

I have recently fitted Toyo Proxes to my Jazz and I am very pleased with their all round performance and at a good price too.

Vic.

I just fitted a pair of Cooper Zeon CS8 on the front, balanced easy, quiet and seem decent enough tyres.

Michelin take some beating, expensive but do wear well.

Michelin do wear well but you sacrifice some grip to get the wear, I used to get Michelin because I was doing over 25K a year,  but find Avons much grippier ( and don't need long wear so much these days, anyway I am boycotting French and German stuff ).

The original Dunlops on the rear that need replacing after 20,000 miles and Mitchelin ES on the front that seem to be wearing well. Except a pot hole means one of the front needs replacing as well.

Looks like the Mitchelin are still recommended.

It doesn't often happen, but I try to get the same all round, so the ES's seem to be the way to go.

I think Avons and Coopers are made in the same factory in Serbia. Solidarity with our Balkan cousins!

The Energy Saver are't available for the 16 inch wheels anymore. So Primacy 3 put on instead.
However noticed the new curtesy car that had 15 inch wheels had energy savers on.
Better ride in the 15 inch wheels too.

On my wife's Mk2 Si I changed the 16" wheels for 15" - it is win-win-win, considerably cheaper tyres, more choice and a better ride..

Have any of you 1.5 Sport owners needed to get new tyres yet? If so what type did you go for?  My front tyres will require replacement in a few weeks and whilst I am very happy with the original Dunlop SP2030, these are no longer available. I have taken onboard the comments regarding the Dunlop Sport Response tyres so will avoid them! I am thinking of either the Bridgestone ER370  which were fitted on my previous EX or possibly Continental  Premium Contact 2 which seem to get good user feedback.

Any comments, particularly from Sport owners gratefully received.
