Title: Jazz Si spark plugs
Post by: d2d4j on July 02, 2018, 11:48:00 AM
Hi

I am sorry if this is a silly question but how many spark plugs are fitted to a jazz si

I always thought it was 8 spark plugs however, our garage informed me ours only have 4 spark plugs

Once again, apologies in advance for such a question

Many thanks

John

My 2009 Jazz EX shift 1.4  has four plugs despite several people, including a garage, telling me that it had eight! I recently replaced my plugs with 4 Bosch Iridium plugs at 60,000-miles and it's running better than ever. Incidentally, it's possible to replace them without removing the front scuttle cover and wipers, but it's fiddly and you're working 'blind' and it took just a bit more than half an hour.

Si is a trim designation. The number of spark plugs depends on whether it is an VTEC or i-DSI engine. VTEC has 4, i-DSI has 8. (My car is an i-DSI S and you get an i-DSI Si !!!) DSI stands for Dual Spark Ignition, hence 2 plugs per cylinder.

Hi

Many thanks for answering

I am not mechanically minded, so ours must be vtec then I guess.

Many thanks

It tells you on top of the engine.

Hi jacko

Many thanks

Feeling even more foolish now. Ours is the lower picture vtec picture

It’s not an area I venture into apart from filling washer bottle and occasionally checking oil dip stick, so don’t look at any more as it means nothing to me

Many thanks

John

A vtec doesn't always mean 4 plugs, the engine in the insight 09 onwards which is a vtec has 8 plugs

The engine in the Insight is the eight plug DSI.

I believe you are both possibly correct. From my research I get the impression that the Insight had an oddball engine, neither one thing or the other. It seems to have been a 1.3 i-DSi I-VTEC angine. Dual spark ignition with VTEC valve timing. However, I think you will find that all Jazz VTEC engines have 4 plugs.

The engine in the Insight is the eight plug DSI.

Vic.
All Insights are powered by an advanced 1.3-litre SOHC aluminium-alloy i-VTEC engine mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) gearbox.

Advanced, in that unlike Jazz VTEC engines, the Insight also has DSI.
