it sure looks like a battery to me - is the car a hybrid petrol / electric
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Might be a pack of 6 lithium battery cells, but I've never seen anything looking like that before. It's got danger and caution do-not-open labels which would make sense.

It seem too small to provide much power, the hybrid battery is quite complex and massive.

So it's an EDLC module, which translates to a capacitor of some sort according to
PDF "EDLC MODULE (capacitor) forced discharge manual - FIT 13G (FF model)."
http://www.honda.co.jp/auto-recycle/pdf/capacitor_common.pdf

Google translate: English  Lithuanian

"Features and mechanism of 'EDLC MODULE' The battery is charged and discharged by a chemical reaction, but the capacitor will physically charging and discharging without a chemical reaction. Therefore, the capacitor is rapidly large current than the battery can be charged and discharged, also less deterioration of the electrode is long life"

If that's the case then I guess it would smooth out primary battery current flow vs. demand for the start/stop models.

Yes, capacitors can be used for the start&stop feature... They work better than a lead acid battery when they frequently  have to  adsorb and release big amounts of current.

I've investigated...
This part refers to a JDM Fit with GK3 framecode, and GK Fit and Jazz can be only 1.3 with manual or CVT gearbox. Hybrid I-DCD Fit have GP5 framecode...
So this capacitors should equip every 1.3 GK3 Jazz, and  they work with the S&S system.
This is another doc:
http://www.chemi-con.co.jp/e/ir/pdf/CHEMI-CON_REPORT2015ep40.pdf

Also Mazda uses this technology, calling it "I-ELOOP"
http://www.mazda.com/en/innovation/technology/env/i-eloop/

Now, can you gently check if all your Jazz GK fit this module inside the trunk? I want to understand if ALL Jazz fit this device...
Thanks

Not quite sure I understand this. Assuming that "GK" refers to the 3rd generation Jazz, ie the one that's on sale now, and "trunk" refers to the luggage compartment behind the rear seats, then I certainly haven't noticed one of these in my 1.3 manual. Where exactly is it fitted, the picture makes it look like it's in the spare wheel well ? Maybe UK-spec cars don't have this system, if not I wonder why not ?

Sorry, I'm italian and my english could be not clear...
Regarding the third generation of Jazz/Fit now on sale:
GK3 refers to the 1.3 Jazz/Fit with CVT or 6m gearbox.
GK4 refers to the 1.3 Fit 4WD
GK5 refers to the 1.5 Jazz/Fit with CVT or 6m gearbox.
GK6 refers to the 1.5 Fit 4WD
GP5 refers to the 1.5 I-DCD hybrid
Many of them are not imported, here in Europe now we can buy only the GK3 Jazz.
Now we know at least two GK3 Jazz/Fit, one running in Japan and the other in UK, who are equipped with a EDLC capacitor module: they are not hybrid  and they fit the CVT gearbox: is the UK one a sort of "mistake" or many/all european Jazz are equipped with EDLC, placed where usually we should find the spare wheel or under the panel?

The first PDF shows an advice label under the front edge of the bonnet, so that should indicate if a vehicle has this system, it also smentions 16v at the EDLC which hints at the purpose of the device.

Just checked my UK-spec car, which I now understand to be a GK3, and it has neither a warning label under the bonnet nor a mysterious assembly of tubes in the back. Assuming that it hasn't been inadvertently left out, I conclude that it isn't specified for the UK market.

A bit of googling finds various suggestions for what it's for, eg link posted by Jazzaro suggests Mazda use it for regenerative braking, and this ...
http://www.electricvehiclesresearch.com/articles/4325/stop-start-supercapacitor-enables-longer-battery-life
... suggests it reduces battery wear due to the Start/Stop system. All of which sounds  pretty useful, so I wonder why the UK isn't being blessed with it ?

By the way ...
Sorry, I'm italian and my english could be not clear...
... your English is much better than my Italian !

@drakonius. one question:
Where do you live? In UK?
Does your mama's Jazz have right hand drive or left hand?
