Looks fab Jim! Do you know how long it lasts for? Does it require topping up every few years?

I was pleased to get the 5 year care plan free.  But I am beginning to realise just how restrictive the terms and conditions can be , at least for my circumstances.

My 3rd service is due in sept/oct,  To get it free I will have to be in the UK at that time , with less than 12500 miles since the last service   (I think they allow you to go 750 miles over on mileage). If I exceed it  I would not only lose my free service, but possibly also the remaining 2 year extended warranty guarantee.

But we had planned to  drive down to the tip of Italy in June. Doing a lot of extra miles.  It would leave it touch and go whether I could return to the uk within the mileage limit.    Had it just been the requirement to have Honda dealership servicing  for the  manufacturers warranty I could be more flexible, possibly  getting it serviced in Italy etc.  I would have to pay of course.

There is something in conditions that if you expect to exceed  limits on mileage or time you must  inform "Honda administration" in writing , in advance of this happening.   But I'd be surprised if this meant they would relax the requirements as a result.

I have solved the problem for this year by delaying the Italy trip until after the next service.    My car insurance runs February - February  and I will not have exceeded my  declared 12000 mile pa  over that period .(and will be less than 30,000 miles in 3 years with the same insurer)

Whatever car I buy next  I think I will look more  carefully at any strings and potential hidden costs attached  to extended warranties and service plans.   Maybe paying for my own servicing and  selling the  car after 3 years  will bring me more freedom and flexibility with my travel plans.

Threw mine away as I wanted the space for a spacesaver wheel. I found that the associated tools, needed for a wheel change after a puncture, could be accommodated within the wheels void. Think loft insulation for a rattle free journey.

Loft insulation is a good idea. Or alternatively just making a support out of wood as the post further below yours suggests. Certainly seems a lot easier than trying to find a used one of these kits for sale which are almost non-existent.

It’s quite bulky to courier.

I’m in no rush, see what turns up nearer you, perhaps I could meet you half way if you’re really stuck for one

I don’t come on this site very often so if you are interested, you could email me at gazbev@hotmail.com.

Cheers and good luck,

Gary

Hi Gary,

Just to come back to your post. Looking at the picture you attached, unfortunately, that's already what most people already have in their cars (myself included). That's the foam insert for cars with the tyre repair kit, there is another one designed for the space saver spare wheel which looks different to that one.

Hope that helps.

The foam plastic insert gives support to the centre of (hardboard?) 'boot' floor panel.
Our used 2017 MK3 came with a full size spare, which sat on the boot floor. I removed the foam insert and found that a length of B&Q studding + timber cross bar, washer & nut would retain the spare in the floor well along with wrapped 'tools'.
The gap between the tyre and underside of the floor panal appears to have a slight front to back taper - so slight reinforcement is required for a flat floor.

Glad you sorted it. Always annoying that you go to a garage and have your wallet "lightened" and then later on find it is a simple problem that you could have sorted out yourself. That was why I invested in some professional level diagnostic tools, however some of these tools are specific to particular makes/models so unless you intend to keep the car forever it is cheaper to go to a specialist (not always found at main dealers!).

mine was so difficult to crack open I thought I was doing it wrong.

ditched the coin and used a large flathead screwdriver , job done.

with anything plastic it is always a bit scary knowing how much force to use , fine line between getting it apart and destroying it !
