108 mpg, end to end.
« on: March 28, 2019, 09:19:28 PM »
This evening I came along my usual route from the A909, via the B925 to the A910. 6.0 miles, junction to junction. I reset my ScanGauge E Current trip, as I started. I got a clear run, and end to end I recorded 108 mpg on the ScanGauge. I have attached a video of the trip, so you can see the route and the fact I was not crawling along.

An all time record for me.

See? I told you you only visit petrol stations to put some back in the pump!  ;D

Pretty good though, it shows you what can be achieved if it wasn't for all those annoying cars on the roads.

It is a great economy road, with short sharp climbs and long downhill sections, where Deceleration Fuel Cut Off comes into effect. I hate to think what the mpg would be like in the other direction. I never go that way. I remember it from my cycling days!

You'll have to do the Land's End to John O'Groats trip and see if you can out-do the Mk 3 Jazz https://www.theaa.com/about-us/newsroom/fuel-economy-record-attempt.

I will never beat that. The road was clear and dry, with nothing to interfere with my progress. A warm summer day may have been better, but the ScanGauge only works in whole numbers above 100, and to squeeze another mpg would be an effort.

That's amazing! Well done! The best I've managed is just under 60mpg.

But that road is a dream for mpg. Earlier on in the week I managed 92 mpg and that was having to slow down for a lorry reversing into a property and virtually stopping, for a Stop/Go at white line painting.

That's an impressive MPG!

I achieved 76MPG from St Boswells to Spittal (Berwick) not long after my GF was complaining that her "new" Jazz didn't get as much to the gallon at the "old" one  ;D

Think around 63 was the best for the "old" one but it did tend to show higher average MPG figures for local running around.

Today I drove the same route in the other direction. The Links Market (huge funfair), is making its annual visit to Kirkcaldy, which closes the main thoroughfare. This leads to hold ups on all the usual routes, and the Auchtertool road was the road that I new was clear. End to end, in similar conditions to my 108 mpg, I was only able to squeeze out 48.7 mpg. Shows how biased the road is in the one direction.

Height difference between the two ends and the wind direction/strength could both be factors.

Height difference is the main factor. Wind was next to zero both days, and both were dry and sunny.
