Exhausts
« on: May 01, 2014, 04:44:57 PM »
I am expecting to need a new exhaust anytime soon as it is becoming a little more noisy
I am concerned about after market exhausts - having had to play around on a completely different car and realised how much difference they can make I don't want to loose out on performance or economy when I buy a replacement
Has anyone any knowledge or ideas?
I see no reason to modify - just match the orig exhaust, but not neccesarily pay out top price for a Honda one

Personally, having seen some lousy quality exhausts in my time, go for the Honda one.

Just haggle, haggle and haggle some more.

Remember. Buy cheap. Buy twice. ;)

Never had an actual bad one - and on some past cars managed to get some tune up ones that actually helped -
but that is not required with this car - just needs to match
I am loath to visit my local Honda Garage -0 really never want to darken the doors again!
I will ask my trusty Garage if they can get a genuine one for me when the time comes
Or
If they know of an alternative that is as good - and he is old school so he will know!

Don't overlook the option of stainless steel custom exhaust. If your planning on keeping the car for a long time it's the best way in my opinion. A decent place will have no problem replacing sections at a time. And it won't be louder if you don't want it to be.

Good point.

I have wondered about the stainless - not sure...
My last car only needed one replacement in nearly 10 years - so
actually is it worth it??
Unless they are NOT too much more

I think an original Honda exhaust should last longer than 4 years, go and complain!
Parts from Honda are good quality but very expensive. When I replaced the middle section and cat on my old orange '05 the pattern parts fitted fine. The only difficulty was at the bottom of the manifold due to access and the bolt jamming. DIY with 'bay parts cost £150 as against hundreds for Honda parts.

Not gone yet - but it burbles a bit when parking outside
Want to do my research before it goes

No five year Honda warranty in 2010?

(Our 2003 Yaris D4D is on its original exhaust).

I sold my eleven year old Civic which I had from new to my neighbour last year, it still has it's original exhaust.
