Brake grinding on downhills
« on: May 12, 2013, 02:27:03 PM »
I'm finding that if I've been doing a long downhill section at low speed, there's a grinding sound for a few minutes even after getting back on the straight and level (and not using brake).

Is it time to get the pads + disc replaced?

Yes
I was hoping for a little more detail than that.  ;D

It sounds as if:

the disks are worn and corroded
or
the pads have worn down to the wear strip - which is designed to make a noise
or
a rear caliper is corroded and sticks
or

or
..

Impossible to say with such a brief description. Inspection and a strip down is the only answer: preferably by a competent mechanic...t
